										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Nigerian Army on Monday, performed a symbolic lowering and hoisting of command flag at Army Headquarters as Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede assumed command as the 24th Chief of Army Staff, COAS.</p>
<p>Oluyede was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on October 30 in acting capacity following the death of his predecessor, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.</p>
<p>The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen. Christopher Musa, had on November 1, handed him the insignia of office in an unusual fashion in line with the Armed Forces Act.</p>
<p>The symbolic lowering and hoisting of the command flag which signifies the beginning of his tenure, came after the Senate and House of Representatives confirmed his appointment.</p>

<p>Until his appointment, Oluyede served as the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, based in Jaji, Kaduna.</p>
<p>The 56-year-old Oluyede and Lagbaja were course mates and members of the 39th Regular Course of the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA.</p>
<p>He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1992, effective from 1987 and rose to the rank of Major General in September 2020.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday honoured the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, by promoting him to the rank of Lieutenant General during a ceremony held at the State House, Abuja.</p>
<p>The decoration of the acting army chief was held at the president’s office, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the president’s spokesman, said in a statement.</p>
<p>Tinubu commended the military for its unwavering courage, dedication, and patriotism in maintaining the nation’s security.</p>
<p>“It is both an honour and a privilege to decorate you today,” the president stated.</p>
<p>“This recognition reflects your commitment and service to the Nigerian military, which speaks volumes through your exemplary record.</p>
<p>“We recognise all that you have been doing to ensure the country is safe and stable,” the president said.</p>
<p>He assured the military that the government would always listen to their advice and keep the country on the path of peace and prosperity.</p>
<p>“We are facing challenges, but progress is being made,” he added.</p>

<p>The president attributed the success recorded in tackling terrorism and banditry to the “synergy’’ in the armed forces and urged the service chiefs to sustain harmony in their relationship for the betterment of the country.</p>
<p>“The synergy among you has calmed the country, and we need that stability to continue. We need to assure all citizens that prosperity is not far from them,” President Tinubu stated.</p>
<p>Oluyede expressed gratitude and acknowledged the solemnity of the occasion.</p>
<p>He reiterated his commitment to upholding the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, and to maintaining peace across the country.</p>
<p>Oluyede was granted Regular Combatant Commission as second lieutenant, member of the 39 Regular Course, on September 19, 1992, with seniority in the same rank effective September 12, 1987.</p>
<p>He participated in several operations, including the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group mission in Liberia, Operation Harmony IV in Bakassi, and Operation Hadin Kai in the North  East.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Chief of Army Staff ( COAS), Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has approved the posting and redeployment of top senior officers to commands, instructional and staff appointments across formations and units.</p>
<p>This is contained in a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, on Saturday in Abuja.</p>
<p>Nwachukwu said the redeployments and appointments were to reposition the Nigerian army for operational efficiency and functional administration.</p>
<p>Those affected include Principal Staff Officers, PSOs, of Army Headquarters, AHQs, General Officers Commanding, GOCs, Corps Commanders, Commandants of  training institutions, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, amongst others.</p>
<p>He said that Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim had been redeployed from Headquarters 3 Division to the Department of Policy and Plans, DAPP, and appointed Chief of Policy and Plans, Army.</p>
<p>Nwachukwu said that Maj.-Gen. BR Sinjen had been appointed Chief of Operations (Army) while Maj.-Gen. O.R. Aiyenigba, erstwhile Provost Marshal had been appointed Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation (Army).</p>
<p>“Others are Maj.-Gen. N.C. Ugbo from Nigerian Army Signals School to Department of Civil Military Affairs and appointed Chief of Civil Military Affairs.</p>
<p>Maj.-Gen. E. Akerejola moves from Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport to Army Headquarters Department of Logistics as the Chief of Logistics (Army).</p>
<p>“Senior officers appointed as General Officers Commanding (GOCs) are Maj.-Gen. Bamidele Alabi from Army War College Nigeria, AWCN, to Headquarters 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. AE Abubakar moves from Headquarters 7 Division to 3 Division as GOC and Commander Operation Safe Haven, OPSH.</p>
<p>“Also, Maj.-Gen. P.P. Mala, moves from Depot Nigerian Army to Headquarters 7 Division as GOC and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North East, NE, Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK.</p>
<p>“Others are Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi from HQ Multinational Joint Task Force Ndjamena, MNJTF, to Theatre Command Joint Task Force, NE Operation (OPHK) as Theatre Commander, while Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali was redeployed from OPHK to MNJTF as the Force Commander,” he said.</p>
<p>Nwachukwu said that the appointment of Maj.-Gen Emmanuel Undiandeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence had been formalised.</p>
<p>He said that Maj.-Gen. O.O. Oluyede had been appointed Commander Infantry Corps; Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Commander Corps of Artillery, and Maj.-Gen. A.A. Adeyinka, Commander of Corps of Supply and Transport.</p>
<p>According to him, Maj.-Gen. Kelvin Aligbe had been appointed Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, while Maj.-Gen. JO Ochai, takes over as Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), and Maj.-Gen. IB Maina, Commandant, Army War College Nigeria.</p>
<p>“Equally redeployed are Brig.-Gen. T.B. Ugiagbe who is appointed Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), Brig.-Gen. OG Onubogu moves to Martin Luther Agwai International Peace Keeping Centre as Commandant, while Brig.-Gen. N Ashinze moves to Defence Intelligence Agency as Director Fusion.</p>
<p>“The Nigerian Army has also formalised the redeployment of Col. A.O. Onasanya from Army War College Nigeria to Headquarters Guards Brigade as Acting  Commander.</p>
<p>“The Chief of Army Staff has directed all newly appointed senior officers to redouble their effort and commitment to duty in ensuring the sustenance of the ongoing onslaught against terrorism, insurgency and other threats to national security, as they assume their new appointments,” he said.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has approved the posting and appointment of some top officers to command, instructional and staff positions across formations and units.</p>
<p>The appointments were announced in a statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, on Thursday in Abuja.</p>
<p>Nwachukwu said the new postings and appointments were done in an effort to reposition the army for operational efficiency.</p>
<p>According to him, those affected in the redeployment include some Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters, General Officers Commanding, Corps Commanders, Commandants of training institutions, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, amongst others.</p>
<p>He said the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Maj.-Gen.Umaru Musa, had been redeployed to 82 as new GOC, while Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja moved from 82 Division to 1 Division as new GOC.</p>
<p>The army spokesman said that Maj.-Gen. OC Ajunwa had been moved from Nigeria Defence Section in Brasilia to HQ 81 Division as GOC, while the Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Aminu Chinade had been moved to 2 Division as GOC.</p>
<p>He also said that Maj.-Gen. OW Ali had been redeployed from Headquarters Command, Army Records, to AHQ as Chief of Administration (Army), while Maj.-Gen. S Muhammed had been moved from Defence Headquarters to AHQ as Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation (Army).</p>
<p>According to him, Maj.-Gen. James Ataguba moved from AHQ Department of Army Standards and Evaluation to Defence Headquarters and appointed, Director, Peace Keeping Operations, while Maj.-Gen. Adekunle Adesope from Army Finance Corps to DHQ and appointed as Chief of Defence,  Accounts and Budget.</p>
<p>“Maj.-Gen. Usman Mohammed moves from Army Headquarters, Department of Administration, to Nigerian Army Resource Centre and appointment Senior Research Fellow.</p>
<p>“Other senior officers affected in the redeployment are Maj.-Gen. Preye Fakrogha, from DHQ Garrison to Defence Space Administration and appointed Director Policy, Plans and Research, while Maj.-Gen. MO Enendu moves from Nigerian Army College of Logistics to DHQ and appointed Director Psychological Warfare.</p>
<p>“Maj.-Gen. Adikwu Attu moves from DHQ Department of Training and Operations to DHQ Garrison and appointed Commander, while Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko moves from the Directorate of Defence Media Operations to DHQ Department of Logistics and appointed Director Procurement,” he said.</p>
<p>Nwachukwu said that Maj.-Gen. A.M. Alabi had been appointed Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps; Maj.-Gen. A Mohammed, Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Electrical Mechanical Engineers and Maj.-Gen. E Akerejola had been appointed Commander, Corps of Supply and Transport.</p>
<p>He said that Maj.-Gen. A.A. Fayemiwo had been redeployed from Nigerian Army Welfare Holdings Limited and appointed Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army).</p>
<p>“Senior officers newly appointed as Commandants of Nigerian Army training institutions are Maj.-Gen. P.I. Eze, Commandant, Nigerian Army Ordinance School; Maj.-Gen. AA Adeyinka, as Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Maj.-Gen. P.P. Malla appointed Commandant, Depot, Nigerian Army, while Brig.-Gen. UT Otaru has been appointed Acting Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport,” he said.</p>
<p>Other appointments, according to Nwachukwu,  are those of Brigade Commanders.</p>
<p>He said the Chief of Army Staff had directed all the newly appointed senior officers to redouble their effort and commitment to duty in tackling the security challenges bedeviling the nation, as they assume their new appointments.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to prompt and adequate attention to the medical needs of wounded troops fighting insurgency in the North East.</p>
<p>The COAS gave the assurance on Saturday, at the 2022 combined Eid-el-Kabir Luncheon organised for wounded troops receiving treatment in a medical facility at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.</p>
<p>Yahaya who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Maj.-Gen. Andrew Omozoje, said he remained passionate towards the provision of the highest standard of medical care to wounded soldiers in the frontline and all Nigerian Army personnel and their families both locally and abroad.</p>
<p>He expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his support to the Nigerian Army and urged the officers and soldiers to remain loyal, unwavering, patriotic and committed to preserving democracy in Nigeria.</p>
<p>He said that the army would continue to provide the best support to those wounded in action by providing aids such as wheelchairs, prosthetics and special vocational training to hasten their recovery.</p>
<p>“It is therefore a great pleasure to felicitate with all officers, soldiers as well as civilian staff of the Nigerian Army and their families on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir Celebration,” he said.</p>
<p>The COAS lamented that the nation had been faced with myriads of security challenges which had distorted the livelihood of all citizens but noted that the Nigerian Army would continue to employ effective means to tackle the challenges through professional conduct of its officers and men in the field.</p>
<p>He said Eid-el-Kabir festival was a special occasion which reminded all of the significance of loyalty, obedience and sacrifice.</p>
<p>It also provides a unique opportunity for all to reflect and pray for the grace of the Almighty Allah to defeat all detractors and bring lasting peace to the country.</p>
<p>“It further affords us the opportunity to pray for the victory of all our troops participating in Operations HADIN KAI, HADARIN DAJI, SAHEL SANITY, WHIRL STROKE and other internal security operations across the country.”</p>
<p>The Chief of Army Staff also paid a special tribute to troops who paid the supreme price in defence of the nation, noting that the army under his leadership remained committed towards ensuring the welfare of their families and preserving the memories of their uncommon sacrifices.</p>
<p>Earlier, Maj.-Gen Christopher Musa, Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, North East Joint Task Force, said no fewer than 61,929, Boko Haram combatants, non-combatants and their families had so far surrendered to the Nigerian Army in the North East.</p>
<p>Musa said that they were currently in the custody undergiong de-radicalisation before their reintegration into the society.</p>
<p>Also, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, represented by Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice- Marshal Charles Owoh, said the Nigerian Airforce remained committed to providing the Air Component with the necessary equipment and platforms in support of joint operations to ensure peace in the region.</p>
<p>He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the forces with air platforms such as A-29 Super Tucano, helicopters and UAVs that contributed immensely to the achievements recorded so far.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military officers, who died in an aircraft crash on Friday is “one mortal blow to our underbelly,” President Muhammadu Buhari has declared.</p>
<p>He said the sad incident came at a time the armed forces were poised to end the security challenges facing the country.</p>
<p>The president made the declaration while expressing sadness over the air crash that claimed the life of Attahiru and others.</p>
<p>In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Friday, the president commiserated with the families of the deceased, the military, and Nigerians in general, describing them as “heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.”</p>
<p>While praying that God should receives the souls of the Chief of Army Staff and other patriots, the president pledged that the departed would not die in vain.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Former Chief of Army Staff, General Salihu Ibrahim, is dead.</p>
<p>Aged 93, he died in his home in Kogi State on Monday.</p>
<p>He joined the army in 1956 and rose to the position of Chief of Army Staff before he retired.</p>
<p>Already, President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a condolence message to his family, describing him as having served the nation diligently.</p>
<p>Said Buhari in the message issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu:  “It is a matter of great pride that outstanding officers like General Ibrahim served the Nigerian Army.</p>
<p>“He served the nation with all his heart; with full dedication and commitment to duty. His service represents the hallmark of our Armed Forces.</p>
<p>“On behalf of my family, the government and the people of our country, I extend deepest condolences to General Ibrahim’s family, loved ones and the government and people of Kogi State.”</p>
