The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has confirmed five dead with 55 others injured as a result of flooding in parts of Yola town in Adamawa.

Mr Ladan Ayuba, the Head of Operations, NEMA office in Yola, said the 55 injured were receiving treatment at the Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital in Yola.

The Sunday early morning flooding recorded after heavy downpour in Yola and environs, submerged houses in some wards of the state capital.

Some of the wards affected where boats are being used to rescue people include Tashan Sani, Shagari Phase II, Sabon Pegi, Anguwan Tabo, Modire, Ummare, Yolde-Pate, Sanda Fadama II and Ibnu Abbas.

Personnel of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Red Cross, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, NSCDC, are collaborating with NEMA in an ongoing rescue mission.

Ali Adam, a resident of Yolde-Pate appreciated the effort of the officials for coming to their aid.

Ali said they had never experienced such a situation in the area.

He also appealed to the state government to come to their aid and take action against a company he claimed was mining in the area.

According to him, the source of the water was not only because of the rain but because of a dam constructed by the company.

Yakubu Musa, a resident of Modire, urged the state government to upgrade a major culvert in the area into a bridge to enable it to accommodate large flow of water.

“There’s also the need to open some water ways blocked by some people engaged in rice farming in the area”, Musa said.

Meanwhile, many displaced persons have started taking refuge in emergency camps and primary schools.

The Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos State on Wednesday paraded a hotelier, simply identified as Macdonald, following his detention over allegations of having unlawful carnal knowledge of a male minor.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, ZPRO, CSP Umma Ayuba, paraded the suspect before newsmen at the Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

Ayuba said that the suspect, who was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Leuven Empire Hotel and Suites, Ejigbo, Lagos, allegedly committed an act against the order of nature.

According to her, the development followed a petition dated January 23, submitted to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, by the father of the 16-year-old victim.

“The petition alleged that the suspect engaged in unlawful sexual acts with the minor.

“Upon receipt of the petition, Fayoade assigned CSP Bangajiya Uba to conduct a discreet investigation into the matter.

“The victim, initially fearful of speaking out due to threats allegedly made by the suspect, confided in his mother.

“He recounted that the suspect warned him that disclosing the incident would result in him losing his sanity, ” Ayuba said.

The ZPRO said that having been reassured by his mother, the victim detailed how the suspect had sexual intercourse with him.

READ ALSO: Dangote refinery exports two cargoes of jet fuel to Saudi Aramco

“The victim narrated how the suspect had taken him from the hotel in his vehicle to his residence at No. 4B, Oshoba Street, Akowonjo-Egbeda, Lagos, where he was forcefully subjected to unlawful sexual acts.

“Following the incident, the suspect allegedly provided the victim with a bottle of Lucozade Boost and N5000 cash.

“Upon this revelation, the victim’s parents reported the matter to the Isheri-Osun Police Division,” Ayuba said.

The image maker said that investigations were initiated but rather than cooperating with law enforcement, the suspect refused to honour police invitations and instead attempted to manipulate the process.

“Seeing that the accused was seeking to evade justice, the victim’s father escalated the matter to the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, where the hotelier was subsequently apprehended.

READ ALSO:

“To ascertain the veracity of the claims, the victim underwent medical examination at Mirabel Medical Centre, ” she said.

Ayuba said that a close friend of the victim, who was present at the hotel on the day of the incident, also corroborated the allegations.

“This friend confirmed that the suspect had been engaging in unlawful acts with the victim and had also attempted a similar act with him, which he resisted.

“He further presented recorded telephone conversations, chat histories, and video evidence filmed by the victim within the suspect’s residence using the suspect’s own phone.

“Initially, the suspect denied knowing the victim. However, when confronted with evidence, he admitted to taking him to his residence.

“The suspect allegedly threatened the victim with psychological harm should he reveal the incident, and since making his confession, the victim has exhibited signs of mental distress,” she said.

The ZPRO said that investigations also uncovered unprofessional conduct by the initial Investigating Police Officer (IPO), who removed a key witness’ statement from the case file before transferring it to the Zone 2 Command Headquarters.

“The IPO has since been detained and is undergoing disciplinary procedures. Contrary to certain media reports, the medical report from Mirabel Medical Centre remains authentic and has not been tampered with in anyway, ” she said.

According to her, the victim is currently receiving medical care, and upon completion of investigations, the suspect will be formally charged in court.

She said that the suspect also lured five other teenagers to his hotel, where he sodomised them and warned the boys that they would die if they revealed the incident to anyone.

Ayuba said that AIG Fayoade urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, closely monitor their children’s activities, and provide guidance to protect them from harmful influences.

By TUNDE BUSARI

Except his needless promotion of his dive into his new faith, an act which must have slapped the congregation of Alfas who turbaned him the Osupa Adini 34 years ago and expectedly opened him to acidic reactions from the obvious side, Adewale Ayuba remains a mainframe that holds the structure of fuji music.

It is pointless to deny that his performance at Oba Makama’s birthday on Sunday instantly floored my imagination like Mike Tyson did to Michael Spinks in 1988. I had honestly concluded that he was a spent force only in a fierce battle to retrieve the rhythm that lifted him up through his ‘Bubble’ vinyl marketed by the game-changing Sony Music in 1991.

Of course, I listened to his ‘KolobaKoloba’, an effort which sounds to me as a song he intentionally pushed out to share the floor with K1’s hit ‘E ma yonu si mi’ or so. But despite his diminishing presence in my subconscious mind, I still consider Ayuba a more gifted musician who is also brilliant to have dished his fuji in a flavour that makes it tasting distinctive from other sub-genre.

Be that as it may, the Ayuba’s youthful band on parade at Kuta is a pointer to his renewed energy to stay long on the stage and keep his cult of fans on dance floor.

What he displayed last Sunday at the function, which had a mass of traditional rulers in attendance, was masterly and attestation to his claim that he occupies a front row among fuji musicians. Is his claim a debate item? I dont think so. History upholds that his debut was dropped in 1986.

READ ALSO: Lagos, CIG Motors sign joint deal to roll out 5,000 new smart taxis

I wished he would sing a track from his ‘Mr Johnson’ he released in 1992. Perhaps, that would have carried me off my seat. Alas! He didn’t remember that album, my best of all his releases, and, thus, lost my dance.

Be that as it may, the Ayuba’s youthful band on parade at Kuta is a pointer to his renewed energy to stay long on the stage and keep his cult of fans on dance floor. Unlike football that retires footballers, music doesn’t retire musicians. But fame does when it enters eclipse and transforms stars of yesterday to senior citizens who find consolation in telling tales of their days of honeymoon at beer parlour and viewing centres.

Ayuba wasn’t lousy at that event; he was almost anonymous until the compere unveiled him as the musician of the day. And when he kicked off, wow, it’s like an airplane departure on runway.

The Police in Lagos State have confirmed the arrest of three suspected kidnappers in the Ijanikin area of the state.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, ZPRO, SP. Umma Ayuba, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

She gave the names of the suspects as Samuel Kwasi, 64, Monday Unachukwu, 24, and Freeman Ekpebo, 23.

The ZPPRO said operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, raided the kidnappers’ hideout at the Ijanikin area, arrested the syndicate, and rescued two victims in a swift operation.

She said that the suspects had kidnapped two persons and demanded N150 million.

“On March 26, at 6 p.m., a resident of Millionaire Estate, Oniru, Lagos, reported the kidnap of her 10-year-old son, maid, (names withheld for security reasons), and driver, Mr Samuel Kwasi, in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

“She further revealed that the kidnappers demanded N150 million ransom.

“Acting on this intelligence, a team of detectives led by CSP Tijjani Taofiq (Officer-in-Charge of the Zonal Monitoring Unit), acted swiftly utilising advanced tracking techniques and intelligence gathering,” she said.

Ayuba said the team pinpointed the kidnappers’ hideout in the Ayetoro area of Ijanikin, Badagry Road, Lagos.

“On March 28, at 3.40 p.m., the officers raided the hideout at Cozzy Hotel, Ijanikin, where one of the suspects, Unachukwu, was arrested and the victims rescued unharmed.

“In a coordinated operation, Kwasi, the driver and Ekpebo, were apprehended at Sun Era Hotel, Ijanikin, where they were allegedly waiting to receive the ransom,” she said.

According to the ZPRO, investigations revealed that Kwasi was the principal suspect and mastermind of the kidnap.

“Kwasi has confessed to demobilising the car’s tracking device before the operation.

“The car’s tracking device and a knife were recovered from the hotel room at Sun Era Hotel, Ijanikin, where the suspects lodged,” she said.

Ayuba said that the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in-charge of the zone, Mr Olatoye Durosinmi, commended the Police officers for the swift response and also appreciated the community for its cooperation and vigilance.

She said that the AIG also urged parents and guardians to be cautious and conduct thorough background checks when employing domestic staffers.

According to her, the command remained committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Lagos and Ogun states.

The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State, has said that the three police officers, who demanded a tinted glass permit from motorists are facing trial for professional misconduct.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, ZPRO, SP. Tunni Ayuba, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

She identified the errant officers as ASP Kenedy Ereoah, Insp. Ademiluyi Adekunle and Insp. Ayo Gbenga.

Ayuba said that the men were not kidnappers, but officers attached to the Zone 2 Command.

“The attention of the Police in Zone 2 Command was drawn to a viral video posted by ‘X’ user with the handle @EmmCee_RNB on Jan. 25, where three men claiming to be police officers attached to the command demanded a tinted glass permit from a motorist.

“The tweet was responded to, while investigation into the identities of the officers commenced.

“The trio are all attached to the Zonal Intelligence Bureau, Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

“Contrary to the claim that they are kidnappers, they were on official duty but acted unprofessionally.

“The officers defaulted and are presently being tried for flouting the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on tinted glass permit,” she said.

Ayuba urged the affected motorist to contact her for further action.

“For the purpose of transparency, the command wishes to request that the affected member of the public contact the ZPPRO via GSM No. 08100025614 for further action,” she said.

According to her, the Assistant Inspector General of Police has called for calm while reassuring residents of Lagos State and Ogun of the safety and security of their lives and property as they go about their lawful businesses.

Veteran Fuji musician, Adewale Ayuba, has announced that his new single, “Uncommon”, will be released on August 27.

Ayuba who made the announcement in Lagos said that the new single would be released to further popularise and digitise Fuji music.

He said that was necessary as African music had begun to gain recognition in the Grammy and other global awards.

He said that talking drums and some other local musical instruments were used while producing the single to make it truly Fuji and African.

“I will be releasing another single on Sunday, August 27.

“Uncommon is my signature music and will be available on all music streaming platform. People will know that I am an uncommon artiste right from time with my new album.

“I want Nigerians to know that my music is uncommon, as an artiste. I am like a Chameleon; I can go to different levels.

“Uncommon speaks about what I have done in the entertainment scene, being the first artiste to take Fuji music to the universities in 1990; before then people saw it as music for the old people.

“I have been able to ensure that as a Fuji artiste, I go beyond performing at birthday and burial parties, I work more on producing albums and singles.

“That is the way the music can gain more popularity,” he said.

Ayuba said that the three-minute single also conveyed morals which had to do with the essence of hard work and seriousness in life.

He encouraged other fuji musicians to intensify efforts at producing more singles and albums to ensure that fuji genre of music does not go into extinction

He also urged them to focus on grooming their music and not to imitate Western music.
