The Police Command in Ondo State has said that it has arrested a self-kidnap suspect and two other accomplices for extorting money from unsuspecting family members in the state.

DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson, who made this known on Thursday in Akure, said the development underscored the command’s unwavering commitment to uncovering criminal schemes, regardless of its careful concealment.

Ayanlade explained that a concerned citizen reported at the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, SAKS, that suspected kidnappers had abducted one Tobi Oluwatuyi ‘m’, aged 22, a truck driver, from the Ilu-Abo Area of Akure.

“Acting promptly on the report, detectives from SAKS immediately commenced a meticulous investigation into the incident.

“As the inquiry progressed, preliminary findings revealed a startling twist: the supposed victim, Tobi Oluwatuyi, had deliberately staged his own kidnapping in conspiracy with Jubril Abu ‘m’, aged 20, and Segun Oluwatuyi ‘m’, aged 21.

“Their intention was to extort a ransom of N1.5 million which the victim’s unsuspecting family eventually paid, believing he had been genuinely abducted.

“Building on this discovery, further investigation confirmed that the entire incident was a calculated attempt by the trio to obtain money fraudulently,” he said.

The spokesperson said the suspects had confessed to their involvement in the crime, reinforcing the effectiveness of the command’s investigative approach.

Ayanlade said the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police (CP) urges members of the public to promptly report incidents and allow investigators to professionally handle such situations.

Ayanlade also said the CP cautioned against yielding to ransom demands in kidnap-related cases, because actions inadvertently encouraged criminal enterprises and undermined ongoing security efforts.

“He also warns against the rising trend of self-orchestrated kidnappings, stressing that such deceptive acts constitute serious offences and will always be uncovered through diligent investigation.

“The command reassures residents that Ondo State will not serve as a haven for criminals of any kind.

“The Police remain steadfast in safeguarding lives and properties, and the continued cooperation of the public will further strengthen collective security,” he said.

The Police Command in Ondo State on Wednesday arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued a couple in Itaogbolu community of Akure North local government area of the state.

DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson, who made this known in a statement, said the breakthrough was recorded in the early hours of Monday at about 5:30 a.m.

Ayanlade said that the abducted couple, Mr David and his wife, were residents of Akure, while they were kidnapped in their farm hut located along the Ondo–Ekiti border at Odeigede Camp.

“Acting swiftly on the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP, immediately directed that all operational assets must and should be deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.

“This decisive instruction formed the foundation for a rapid and coordinated response.

“In line with this directive, operatives from the Iju–Itaogbolu division and the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad, SAKS, working closely with vigilant youths of the community, advanced into the forest in pursuit of the kidnappers.

“As the pressure from the combined team intensified, the suspected kidnappers abandoned the victims.

“Mr David, who suffered machete cuts, managed to escape alongside his wife, while the operatives promptly rescued them,” he said.

According to him, the rescue of the couple further strengthens the determination of officers to continue the pursuit without relenting.

The spokesperson said while sustaining operational momentum, the police deployed intelligence-led strategies to trace the suspects’ movement deep inside the forest.

Ayanlade also said the tactical effort led to the discovery of a hut where one suspect was arrested.

He explained further that items recovered include a Samsung Note 10 mobile phone, a sword, and a broken bottle found in the suspect’s pocket.

“The kidnappers wore masks during their operation, but the physical built and appearance of the arrested suspect matched the description provided by the victim.

“The suspect has been cooperating with investigators and giving useful information, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice(s),” he said.

Ayanlade said the CP appreciates the combined efforts of the Iju–Itaogbolu Divisional Police Station, SAKS, and the courageous youths of the community whose timely cooperation contributed immensely to the achievement.

“The command reiterates in strong terms that Ondo State has not been—and will never be—a breeding ground for violent criminals or criminal activities.

“Individuals or groups operating along state lines and border communities are strongly warned to desist, as they will undoubtedly be caught and made to face the full weight of the law.

“The command urges the good people of Ondo State to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and cooperative with the Nigeria Police Force as efforts to safeguard lives and property are continually intensified,” he said.

The Police command in Ondo State has arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, over an alleged conspiracy and rape of a 20-year-old student.

DSP Olushola Ayanlade confirmed in a statement on Monday that the case reflected the command’s improved capacity to confront serious crimes.

He said preliminary findings showed the victim was invited to the home of her long-time friend, Queen Sodo, a 19-year-old student of the same institution.

According to him, the victim trusted their long relationship, which began in secondary school and continued into university.

Ayanlade said the victim accepted a drink given by her friend, later discovered to have been drugged, leaving her unconscious.

“After noticing the victim had become incapacitated, Queen Sodo reportedly left the room, invited her male accomplice, and kept watch while the crime occurred,” he said.

Ayanlade said a neighbour rescued the victim after hearing unusual noises from the room and found her unconscious with the male suspect.

He explained that the victim received urgent medical attention and was later referred to a specialist hospital, where she is recovering.

“Both suspects have confessed to their involvement and described their specific roles in the crime,” he said.

He added that key exhibits, including the drug-laced drink, were recovered and identified by the victim and the suspects.

Ayanlade said the suspects remain in lawful custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk Office for further investigation and prosecution.

“The command assures the public that offenders will face the full weight of the law, regardless of familiarity with their victims,” he said.

He urged parents and guardians to educate their children on caution in relationships, noting that even long friendships may be exploited for criminal acts.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Enu-Owa Division in Ondo West local government area of the state.

Lawal made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade.

The CP explained that the DPO’s redeployment followed his unprofessional handling of a recent case involving a social media influencer, Adefolarin Ayomiposi, popularly known as Mandykiss.

He said the action of the command became necessary after a video surfaced online showing the said influencer recording and taking snapshots of suspects while in police custody at Enu-Owa Division.

According to him, the incident, which has generated widespread public concern, prompted a swift internal review by the command.

Lawal said the preliminary findings revealed that no police personnel accompanied Mandykiss during the purported arrest.

He said Mandykiss was reportedly aided by her internet followers, who provided information leading to the location of the suspects — Mrs Akinwole Sabitu and her daughter, Miss Akinwole Oyindamola — accused of alleged cyberbullying.

“After effecting the arrest, she was seen recording a video inside her vehicle while conveying the suspects to the station.

“Upon arrival, she handed them over to the police but went further to take their photographs within the station premises and post them on her social media platforms

“This is an act contrary to standard police procedure and inconsistent with the legal principle of presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

“This sequence of events demonstrated a clear lapse in supervisory responsibility and professional judgment on the part of the DPO,” he said.

READ ALSO: How tanker explosion killed 35, injured 46 in Niger -FRSC

Lawal, who directed the officer’s immediate redeployment, emphasised that the command would not condone any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

“Recording or photographing suspects in custody constitutes a violation of established ethical standards and contravene procedural directives guiding the management of suspects,” he said.

The CP furthered reminded officers and men of the command to remain vigilant, impartial, and professional in all operations.

According to him, officers and men should ensure that the rights of both suspects and complainants are protected in strict accordance with the law.

Lawal further said that the conduct of the officer did not reflect the discipline, integrity, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

He, therefore, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to upholding discipline and accountability across the command.

The Police Command in Ondo State has said that it has apprehended one Oyewole Adamolekun for allegedly engaging in a prolonged incestuous relationship with his biological daughter, aged 15, which resulted in pregnancy.

DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson, who made this known in a statement on Thursday in Akure, said Ademolekun was a resident of Taye Village, Lafa 2, Ajue Area.

Ayanlade said the case came to public attention on October 8, 2025, when one Mr Julius Olusola, a resident of the same area, lodged a formal complaint at the Enu-Owa Divisional Police Headquarters, Ondo Town.

The command’s spokesperson said the complainant alleged that the suspect had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter since she was three years old.

“Acting swiftly on the report, officers of the division arrested the suspect.

“The victim was immediately taken to a medical facility where an ultrasound examination confirmed that she was 19 weeks and two days pregnant.

“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime.

“He (suspect) is currently in police custody, and the case has been transferred to the command’s gender desk for diligent investigation and expedited prosecution,” Ayanlade said.

The spokesperson also said the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, strongly condemned the act and described it as not only criminal, but also morally reprehensible.

“Lawal reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of sexual abuse, particularly against minors.

“The CP, therefore, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any form of abuse or suspicious behaviour to the nearest police station,” he said.

The Police command in Ondo State has rescued a four-year-old girl, Jesinta Sunday, who was sold for ₦3.7 million in Asaba.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday in Akure, adding that two suspects had been arrested.

He said the case began on February 3 2025, when one Sunday Kingsley reported his daughter missing while living with his wife, Sunday Happiness.

According to Ayanlade, the case was transferred to the monitoring unit for discreet investigation, and later charged before the Family Magistrate Court in Akure.

The child’s mother, Nneka Onah, and Sunday Happiness were remanded at the Ondo Correctional Centre before later being granted bail.

A breakthrough came on July 9, when Kingsley reported sighting his missing daughter in Asaba, prompting swift police action.

Detectives from the command’s Gender Desk Team recovered the child safely and returned her to Akure, while arresting one Amaka Chukwuemeka, aged 30.

READ ALSO: Online publisher, Ajagbe, presents ‘GAC Frame’ to Lagos Speaker, Obasa

Chukwuemeka confessed she bought the child for ₦3.7 million, adding that she was introduced by her friend, Chinaza Owoh, aged 38.

She further alleged that the child was handed over by 58-year-old Mabel Esimai, who provided forged adoption documents to facilitate the transaction.

Police investigations later confirmed that Esimai allegedly received the child from another woman, Chioma Okechukwu, aged 37, with instructions to secure a buyer.

Ayanlade said the discoveries exposed a well-organised trafficking network spanning Ondo, Delta, and Anambra states, highlighting the scale of the criminal enterprise.

He added that the command commended the Gender Desk Team for their diligence, professionalism, and swift response in rescuing the child.

He noted that the command also directed investigators to uncover all collaborators and ensure prosecution of the suspects, stressing that Ondo would not harbour child traffickers or syndicates.

The Police Command in Ondo State has said that one Abdullahi Saliu of Top Quality Hotel has been apprehended for parading himself as a Colonel in the Nigerian Army.

DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Akure.

Ayanlade attributed the breakthrough to part of the command’s notable record in the fight against crime and fraudulent activities in the state.

According to him, the suspect defrauded two victims, Oshoade Janet ‘f’ and Daisi Remilekun Joy ‘f’, under the false pretext of securing employment for their sons in the Nigeria Customs and Immigration Services.

READ ALSO: FG has no immediate plans to implement 5% fuel tax -Edun

“Through this fraudulent scheme, he (Saliu) obtained the sum of N1,377,000, which he subsequently converted to his use.

“Investigations further revealed that the suspect’s operations cut across state lines, with victims traced to Edo, Delta, Kogi and Ondo states.

“He (suspect) has long been on the command’s watchlist as a notorious job racketeer, known for impersonating senior officers of different security agencies.

“His disguise and fraudulent claims include presenting himself as a Colonel in the Nigerian Army, a Naval officer, a senior Immigration and Customs officer, among others.

“The behaviour is all in a bid to defraud unsuspecting citizens of their hard-earned money,” Ayanlade said.

The command’s spokesperson also said the suspect had appeared before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for appropriate prosecution.

According to him, the arrest represents one of the several cases successfully cracked in recent times by the Police Command in Ondo State.

“The command seizes this opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to protecting the lives, properties and interests of all residents, while ensuring that fraudsters and criminally-minded elements are brought to justice.

“We also commend the visionary leadership and morale-boosting initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, whose strategic direction continues to inspire and empower the command in achieving these successes,” he said.
