The Police Service Commission, PSC, and the Nigeria Police Force have fixed March 9, to commence physical and credential screening in the ongoing recruitment of Constables into the Nigeria Police Force.

Spokesman for PSC, Mr Torty Kalu, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

Kalu said that the physical and credential screening would hold between March 9 and April 18 across the country.

“Applicants who successfully completed the online recruitment registration exercise are requested to login to the recruitment portal on npfapplication.psc.gov.ng,

“This is to check their status and print the following documents which they must present at the screening venue on the date and time indicated in their invitation slip.

“The documents are guarantors form, application submission slip, invitation slip, credentials screening form and physical screening form,” he said.

He added that items to be presented during the screening include invitation slip with assigned TABLE and credential screening form.

“Other items to be presented are original National Identity Number (NIN) printout or card issued by NIMC, O’ Level (GCE/SSCE) Certificate and Birth Certificate or Declaration of age.

“LGA/State of Origin Certificate, Trade Test/Certificate for specialists only, duly completed and signed Guarantors form with photocopies and passports of referees attached would also be presented,” he said.

According to him, original and duplicate copies of credentials are to be neatly packaged in two separate white flat files, with recent passport photographs attached.

Kalu said applicants must appear at the various screening venues wearing white canvas shoes, white T-shirts, white shorts, and white stockings.

He said the screening exercise would take place at designated locations within each state/FCT as indicated on the invitation printout.

He also said that the recruitment exercise was absolutely free of charge without any pecuniary obligation.

He quoted the Chairman of PSC, Mr Hashimu Argungu, as pledging that the process would be conducted in the best tradition of transparency and accountability.

Argungu urged applicants to be wary of online impostors, scammers and other criminal elements who might want to take advantage of the recruitment process to defraud innocent applicants.

He warned that anyone found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted.

The Kebbi Investment Promotion Agency, KIPA, has said that the state has attracted investment commitments worth about $14 billion dollars across key sectors of the economy in the state.

Dr Muhammad Kabir-Kamba, Director-General of KIPA, made this known in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi, on the sidelines of the launch of the 2026 Argungu Fishing Festival, which commenced with an Investors’ Forum.

Kabir-Kamba said no fewer than 42 investors from different parts of the world, including the United States of America and the United Arab Emirates, were participating in the forum to explore business opportunities in the state.

According to him, the prospective investments span agriculture, housing, energy, mining and manufacturing.

He added: “One of the most significant projects we are discussing is the establishment of an electric auto manufacturing company in Kebbi.

“The company is expected to produce electric cars, electric motorcycles, solar panels and lithium batteries.

“This is very strategic for us because of its direct impact on job creation, technology transfer and value addition within the state.”

The director-general revealed that a 4.9-billion-dollar investment proposal on iron ore exploration was also under consideration, alongside a separate four billion dollars agricultural investment project in Yauri Emirate.

“We also have a number of renewable energy companies that have signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to invest between 70 million dollars and 100 million dollars each.

“In the energy sector alone, we are commencing the construction of 25 mini-grids across Kebbi between 2026 and 2027.

“Beyond that, we are targeting an additional 75 mini-grids, which will bring the total to 100 mini-grids in the state.

“This aligns with a national programme, and we are positioning Kebbi to be among the first states to benefit maximally from the available resources,” he said.

Kabir-Kamba noted that the cumulative value of the MoUs being signed during the festival stood at about $14 billion dollars, cutting across multiple sectors of the state’s development priorities.

He said the investments were in line with the state’s development plan and anchored on its comparative advantages, particularly in agriculture and solid minerals.

The director-general attributed the growing investor confidence to the prevailing peace and security in the state, as well as the enabling environment created by the government.

“We have relative peace and security in Kebbi, and that is critical to driving investments to fruition. Investors are more confident when they see stability and government commitment,” he said.

Kabir-Kamba also acknowledged the support of key partners and sponsors, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, Access Bank and other corporate organisations, for their roles in facilitating the investment drive.

The D-G expressed optimism that the agreements would translate into tangible projects that would stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities and improve the overall standard of living in the state.

The Police Service Commission, PSC, has approved the promotion of 952 Assistant Superintendents of Police, ASPs, to the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police, DSP.

The commission, however, declined the promotion of 176 officers found to have retired and three others suspected to be deceased.

Mr Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said the decisions were among the highlights of the first plenary meeting of the 6th board of the commission.

Ani added that the commission’s approval had been forwarded to the Inspector-General of Police, I-G, for implementation.

The PSC chairman, Mr Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers.

Argungu, however, warned that thenceforth Police personnel must imbibe the spirit of nationalism and respect both the nation’s laws and police service regulations.

The PSC chairman stressed that the commission would no longer tolerate diversionary or unauthorised actions by serving officers, particularly when established channels existed to air grievances.

Argungu reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to protecting officers’ career progression, ensuring it was neither hindered nor undermined.

Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, has said that President Bola Tinubu was not coercing opposition lawmakers to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, contrary to public criticism.

He said this during plenary on Tuesday, while justifying the defection of all the three Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senators from Kebbi to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Bamidele noted that the ruling party “is now running a government of national unity.”

Bamidele spoke in the presence of the APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje; Governor of Kebbi, Alhaji Nasir Idris and APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Argungu, among others, who were at the chamber.

Those who defected are Sen. Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Sen. Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North) and Sen. Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South).

Bamidele noted that their defection was based on the overriding public interest and had nothing to do with turning Nigeria into a one-party state.

According to him, the ruling party will not close its doors to anyone intending to join the party.

“In the same way, we will not also discriminate against anyone either on the basis of religion, tribe or any other factor. Our doors will continue to be open for more people to join at all levels.

“In the meantime, we will continue to work with the members of the minority political parties.

“It is not by sheer coincidence that virtually all political parties from the Young Progressives Party, YPP, to the Peoples Democratic Party have to join the ruling APC.

“Even APGA, which has not joined the ruling party, has also graciously nominated and donated a minister of state to the Federal Government of Nigeria under the APC administration.

“That is to say, what we are now running is a government of national unity,” he said.

Bamidele specifically commended the defectors for their decision to join the ruling APC while reflecting on how the PDP was coercing members of the opposition parties to defect to its fold when it was in government at the federal level.

He said: “We were all in this country when PDP was the ruling party. We saw all the things that happened under the PDP in an attempt to get more states, more seats in the Senate and more seats in the House of Representatives.

“We are not at the polls. No one is being coerced.

“If anyone is coerced, the person is definitely not Sen. Adamu Aliero. All of us know that the person cannot be Sen. Yahaya Abdullahi that will be co-opted.

“Neither will Sen. Garba Maidoki with a stint in the private sector before he ventured into politics will defect to APC without clear conviction.

“As far as we are concerned, Sen. Yahaya Abdullahi that I know will rather stay in opposition and be very loud.

“They all recognise that this is not the time for grandstanding. This is the time for all of us to work together to take Nigeria to the next level.

“One of the defectors has been privileged to be the governor of Kebbi, precisely from 1999 to 2007”.

“For us in APC, this is a wonderful development. For those who are keenly watching political developments, rest assured that at the end of the day, this can only be for the good and greatness of Nigeria.

“To the rest of our colleagues on the minority isle, we will continue to work together for the progress of Nigeria.

“I say it again for the umpteenth time. Those who refer to this parliament as a rubber stamp parliament should note that we are at a very critical stage of our national life when all hands must be on deck.”

He said the commission’s chairman, Mr. Hashimu Argungu, had told the officers during the promotion examination and interactive interview that promotion examinations had come to stay in police promotion.

The Police Service Commission, PSC, has approved the dismissal of 18 senior officers and demotion of 19 others over misconduct and other disciplinary issues.

The Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Ani said the commission, at its first plenary meeting in Abuja, took the decision on 109 pending disciplinary matters and 23 appeals and petition cases with 13 court judgments seeking compliance.

He said the commission had earlier considered and approved recommendations on several promotion matters conveyed to it by the Inspector-General of Police for implementation.

Ani said the plenary meeting was presided over by the chairman of PSC, Mr Hashimu Argungu.

“After rigorous consideration of the pending disciplinary matters before the commission, it approved the dismissal of 19 senior police officers.

“The senior officers consist of 10 Assistant Superintendents, six Deputy Superintendents, two Chief Superintendents and one Superintendent.

“The commission also approved the reduction in ranks of 19 other senior police officers, consisting of one Assistant Commissioner of Police, one Chief Superintendent, two Superintendents, two Deputy Superintendents and 13 Assistant Superintendents,” he said.

Ani said the PSC punished two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, with one being reprimanded for refusal to carry out lawful instructions while the other received letter of warning for negligence.

The PSC spokesman said several other officers found culpable received different punishments including, severe reprimand, and letters of warning.

According to him, most of the officers dismissed will also be prosecuted by the legal unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

READ ALSO: Prostate enlargement: Expert speaks on early detection, prevention

He said three pending disciplinary matters were stepped down with a request for further information from the Inspector General of Police after considering 23 appeals and petitions and nine legal matters/court judgments.

Ani said the commission would henceforth be considering police disciplinary matters with dispatch.

He said the idea was to free police officers who were not found wanting to continue with their career progression and those found culpable to serve their punishments.

The PSC spokesman said the PSC boss had warned that the commission would not spare police officers who indulged in civil matters like land disputes, marital issues and rent related disputes.

Argungu said the courts should be allowed to do their work while the Police should pay more attention to criminal matters and threats to life.
