The chairman of the agency, Mr Moroof Akinwande, confirmed this in a statement made available on Thursday in Ibadan.

Akinwande said the agency’s personnel got a distress call about the incident on Wednesday through a telephone call from one Mrs Fadeke Yusuf and immediately deployed personnel to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we met a Suzuki bus (OSUN) LEW 484 XA with eight passengers which lost control and crashed into a river.

“Five persons were rescued alive and conveyed to Ona – Ara Private Hospital, Jegede area, while three dead bodies were recovered and handed over to a team of policemen from Ogbere Divisional headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim,” he said.

He attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving and advised motorists to always drive with care and observe the road safety tips to avoid unnecessary accident.

Akinwande appreciated the support of the crew of Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency, OYRTMA, Ona Ara Division, and Glorious Temitope, Chairman of Ona Ara local government during the operation.

The chairman of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Akinwande said that the fire which happened on Monday destroyed eight out of 84 shops in the area.

He said the agency got a distress call about the incident at exactly 12:43 p.m. on Monday through a telephone call from one Mr Akanni and immediately deployed personnel led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we met eight out of 84 shops engulfed by fire.

“Firemen promptly launched a coordinated attack on the blaze and restricted the fire from spreading to other shops,” he said.

The agency’s chairman said the fire-fighting operation was carried out in conjunction with officers from the Federal Fire Service Ibadan Command.

Akinwande said that no casualty was recorded in the fire incident and the cause of the fire incident was yet to be ascertained, noting that investigation was ongoing to determine the cause.

The tanker was transferring its contents into a gas skid tank when it exploded.

The chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement released to newsmen on Saturday.

Akinwande added that two shops and a residential building were also damaged in the explosion.

He said the agency received a distress call about the incident at exactly 7.40 p.m. on Friday from Pastor Oyebamiji.

The chairman added that the agency’s personnel immediately responded and were deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found a gas tanker with registration number LSR268YC, loaded with 15 tonnes of LPG, had exploded while transferring its contents into a gas skid tank.

“The blast damaged two shops and a residential building, and three people lost their lives,” he said.

Akinwande confirmed that the bodies of the deceased had been handed over to policemen from Akanran Division.

He added that the operation was carried out with support from a crew of firemen from the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.

The chairman of the service, Mr Morouf Akinwande, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Ibadan.

Akinwande said the incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Monday and the state fire service personnel led by CFM Oladejo Kola responded swiftly to the incident.

According to him, one  of the trucks loaded with unidentified chemicals burst into flames when they collided.

“The agency’s officers swiftly swung into action and curtailed the fire from spreading to the truck loaded with grains,” he said.

He said the firemen were able to completely extinguish the fire, adding that the fire affected only the truck with chemical while the second truck was saved.

He said seven persons were rescued with minor injuries and taken to Bowen Teaching Hospital by Federal Road Safety Corps officials in Ogbomoso Division for medical attention.

He said that normal vehicular movement had been restored to the area.

Confirming the incident in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday, the chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Maroof Akinwande, said that the truck skidded off the road at a sharp bend, spilling its content.

Akinwande said that the service received a distress call at exactly 20:07 p.m. from one Mr. Adisa Kazeem.

He said that its personnel, led by ACFS Adeniyi Adesina, was promptly deployed to the scene of the incident.

“On getting there, a DAF tanker with registration no T17657LA (Lagos) with 50,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) had skidded off the road into a nearby gutter and its content was gushing out.

“The firemen quickly blanketed the spillage with chemical foam compound so as to neutralise the flammability of the content,” he said.

The chairman attributed the cause of the accident to loss of control when the driver was trying to navigate the bend in the road.

He added that both the driver and the motor boy were rescued alive, but the motor boy sustained minor injury on his shoulder.

Akinwande said that motor boy was immediately taken to a near-by hospital for medical treatment.

He said that personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and Amotekun Corps had since restored vehicular movement in the area.
