DSP Olushola Ayanlade confirmed in a statement on Monday that the case reflected the command’s improved capacity to confront serious crimes.

He said preliminary findings showed the victim was invited to the home of her long-time friend, Queen Sodo, a 19-year-old student of the same institution.

According to him, the victim trusted their long relationship, which began in secondary school and continued into university.

Ayanlade said the victim accepted a drink given by her friend, later discovered to have been drugged, leaving her unconscious.

“After noticing the victim had become incapacitated, Queen Sodo reportedly left the room, invited her male accomplice, and kept watch while the crime occurred,” he said.

Ayanlade said a neighbour rescued the victim after hearing unusual noises from the room and found her unconscious with the male suspect.

He explained that the victim received urgent medical attention and was later referred to a specialist hospital, where she is recovering.

“Both suspects have confessed to their involvement and described their specific roles in the crime,” he said.

He added that key exhibits, including the drug-laced drink, were recovered and identified by the victim and the suspects.

Ayanlade said the suspects remain in lawful custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk Office for further investigation and prosecution.

“The command assures the public that offenders will face the full weight of the law, regardless of familiarity with their victims,” he said.

He urged parents and guardians to educate their children on caution in relationships, noting that even long friendships may be exploited for criminal acts.

Governor Sanwo-Olu spoke on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, led by its President and Chairman, Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

He also pledged his administration’s commitment to continue to improve the state’s economy for businesses to thrive and increased prosperity in a safe environment.

In a related development, the governor pledged his administration’s commitment to collaborate with the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, ICSAN, to ensure corporate governance and administration in the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the President and Chairman in Council of ICSAN, Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo, and other members of the institute at the Lagos House, Ikeja, on Wednesday.

Sanwo-Olu said Lagos would continue to be home to all Nigerians, adding that the state government would create more platforms and opportunities for people to grow.

Speaking earlier, Prof. Olanrewaju commended the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration for remarkable achievements, good governance, and delivery of democracy, which had impacted positively on the lives of millions of Lagos residents.

Olanrewaju said CIBN had put several measures in place to tackle the ‘Japa syndrome’ in the banking sector, among which is the establishment of a state-of-the-art academy to train new personnel within a short period of time and render quality services to the people, as well as upholding the ethics and professionalism of the sector.

The CIBN executives during the visit announced Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Minister of Finance Mr. Wale Edun, as Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

In her address, the President and Chairman in Council of ICSAN, Mrs. Ekundayo, also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s developmental strides achieved through the THEMES+ Agenda.

Ekundayo sought the government’s collaborations on capacity building for the Lagos State workforce, support for corporate governance, and enhancing capabilities.

She also advocated building the right corporate governance structure both in the private and public sectors across the country.

The assailant fled after the incident and is still at large.

Irate fellow students went on rampage immediately after the stabbing and razed a building belonging to a relative of the assailant in which he lived.

“The student was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His death angered other students who set the suspect’s house ablaze,’’ the eyewitness said.

Police spokesman in Ondo State, ASP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident but said she had yet to get full details.

She confirmed also that the student died in the hospital.

The traditional ruler of the community, Alale of Akungba, Oba Isaac Adeyeye, called for restraint and public peace and advised students of the university to eschew breakdown of law and order.
