The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has declared that the mandate of the people of Oyo State given to him through the March 9, 2019, remains intact following the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Ibadan on Monday.

Governor Makinde, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, declared that the mandate given to him by the people of Oyo State cannot be taken through the backdoor.

The statement reads: “There is no ambiguity as to the state of things in our Pacesetter State as far as the election of March 9, 2019, is concerned. Our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the election. The victory was reaffirmed by a ruling of the Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Ibadan, the state capital.

“On Monday, the Court of Appeal, also sitting in Ibadan, delivered its judgement on the appeal by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo Adelabu.

“In its ruling, the Appeal Court refused to grant any of the three key reliefs sought by the APC candidate.

“The Court refused to nullify the election; it refused to order a fresh election and it also refused to order the retrial of the petition.

“With the above being the reality of the outcome of the Appeal Court ruling, the election of Engineer Seyi Makinde as the Governor of Oyo State has just been reaffirmed.

“There is nothing in the Appeal Court’s ruling that affects the returns made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and there is nothing that tampers with the mandate freely given to Engineer Seyi Makinde by the people of Oyo State.”

The statement added: “Governor Makinde hereby urges the good people of Oyo State to remain calm and refuse to be provoked by agents of disruption who are seeking to upturn the truth, which remains constant against all odds.

“We also wish to enjoin the people of Oyo State to ignore the doctored reports in some media outlets, which are merely quoting the judgement of the Court of Appeal out of context.

“With a clear margin of Makinde’s 515,621 votes to Adelabu’s 357,982 votes, the preference of the people of Oyo State is as clear as day and night.”

While reassuring the people of Oyo State that he could not be deterred from taking the state to greater heights through the implementation of his four-point service agenda, Governor Makinde insisted that positive governance and unprecedented development would continue to be the portion of the people of Oyo State through his tenure.

The gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has promised to establish a students’ consultative forum that will interface between his government and students in the state if elected.

He made the promise while speaking at a parley with the leadership of Oyo State students in tertiary institutions at an event held in Ibadan, the state capital.

The APC gubernatorial candidate in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday in Ibadan by Dr. Bayo Busari, spokesperson for Friends of Bayo Adelabu Independent Campaign Group, (FOBA ICG), said the students were led by NANS JCC Chairman in Oyo State, Moronkola Teslim and Federation of Oyo State Students (FOSSU) Senate President, Wasiu Oke.

The students used the medium to express their support for the candidature of Adelabu.

The students leaders, while assuring Adelabu of their votes, declared their utmost confidence in his ability to lead the state to a greater height.

Busari in the statement maintained that Adelabu had earlier on Tuesday met with Professional Videographers Association of Nigeria (PVAN).

He noted that members of PVAN during the meeting adopted Adelabu as their gubernatorial candidate.

Busari said the adoption took place during a meeting between members of PVAN and Friends of Adebayo Adelabu Independent Campaign Group.

PVAN Governor, Prince Niyi Olanrewaju, said the association was ready to mobilise its more than 22,000 members to work tirelessly for the success of Adelabu at the polls.

Olanrewaju noted with delight the efforts of Chief Adelabu to bring about the peaceful atmosphere that pervades the length and breadth of Oyo State through his leadership of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund.

He said: “The people of Oyo State have enjoyed relative peace through the effort of the security trust fund that you head. Not only this, your uncommon contribution to the establishment of the Technical University has not gone unnoticed.

“It is our belief that if you could do all these, aside your various philanthropic activities, you are best suited to be the number one man in Oyo State, come May 29, 2019.

“We’re proud to be associated with his ambition and we’re ready to throw our weight behind the realisation of his ambition to govern Oyo State come May 29, 2019.”

Olanrewaju however appealed to members of FOBA ICG to impress it on Chief Adelabu to run an all-inclusive government when he is eventually sworn in as the governor of the state.

FOBA ICG Chairman, Mogaji Remi Babalola who received the leadership of PVAN, thanked the association for endorsing the candidacy of Adelabu for the gubernatorial election.

He assured that Oyo State was going to have a listening governor in Adelabu who would also ensure that all sections of the state got their fair share of government attention.

According to him, the friends of Adelabu decided to throw their weight behind him because of the confidence they have in his ability to govern the state in a fair and equitable way, without fear or favour.
