The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said in a statement issued in Osogbo that gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on Ajibola’s vehicle in a suspected assassination attempt.

Ojelabi said the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 11:50 p.m. along the MDS area of Osogbo, noting that two armed men riding a motorcycle reportedly attacked the victim.

He said that immediately the command received the report, officers were mobilised to the scene.

According to him, the victim was taken to a medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment.

Ojelabi added that medical personnel had confirmed that the victim was in stable condition and responding positively to treatment.

He said the police had launched an aggressive manhunt for the fleeing suspects to ensure their arrest and prosecution.

Ojelabi further stated that preliminary investigations at the scene led to the recovery of exhibits, which are being subjected to forensic analysis.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ibrahim Gotan, had condemned the incident, ordered a high-powered investigation, and directed the deployment of resources to apprehend those responsible.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Kolapo Alimi, also condemned the attack.

Alimi, in a statement, said the incident involving the victim, now the Accord chairman in Osogbo local government area, must be thoroughly investigated.

He urged the police to leave no stone unturned in unmasking the perpetrators of the attack.

Ajibola was a member of the PDP in Osogbo local government area before defecting to the Accord Party, where he was appointed chairman.

The Accord Party on Friday announced its nomination fees for elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that its electoral window would close on April 25.

The Lagos State chairman of the party, Mr Dele Oladeji, revealed this in a statement issued in Lagos following the party’s National Executive Council, NEC, meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.

Oladeji said the NEC meeting was the final session to determine key pre-election activities, including nomination fees, primary election dates and mode of primaries.

“The NEC meeting serves as the concluding meeting for the fixing of nomination fees, primary date and the primary mode ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Oladeji said.

According to him, the approved nomination and expression of interest fees for governorship aspirants under the Accord platform are N10 million and N5 million respectively.

For the Senate aspirants, Oladeji said the nomination fee was N5 million while the expression of interest fees remained N2.5 million.

For the House of Representatives, he said that the nomination and expression of interest fees were N3.5 million and N1.5 million respectively.

Oladeji explained that aspirants for the state House of Assembly seats would pay N1 million and N500,000 for nomination and expression of interest fees respectively.

“We are also warning of the closure to the electoral window on April 25. Membership registration ends on April 26, same as the purchase of nomination forms,” he said.

Oladeji called on Lagos residents seeking change in governance to align with the party.

“Accord is the party to vote for. If you desire a change in governance, then you need to change the party that will govern Lagos State from 2027.

“Accord is making a clarion call for patriotic change agents to join the party, contest and win, so as to be involved in the governance of Lagos State,” Oladeji said.

The chairman also pledged reforms in key state agencies and policies.

“Accord is leading the charge for a cleanup of bad political leadership and governance.

“We will elect patriotic leaders who will reform the state to bring human face to governance and policies,” he said.

Oladeji added that the party’s primary elections would commence on May 21.

The governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to Accord Party, AP.

Adeleke made the announcement on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House on Tuesday.

He however said that he joined the party on November 6, and planned to seek re-election as governor of Osun State in 2026 on the platform.

His choice, according to him, was based on its “mission of welfarism” which he said was in consonance with his focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.

“In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and to accord deep respect for the wishes of Osun people, I hereby accordingly declare for the Accord Party,” he stated.

Said he: “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.

“Stakeholders and residents of Osun state are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded at home and abroad.

“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.”

He added: “I welcome our party leaders into the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.

“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections. We have a duty to ensure an inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are cared for. Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state.

“Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. The primary essence of a government is the welfare and well-being of the people.

“As a governor, I have prioritised the welfare of our people, from workers to the entire citizenry. Day and night, we implement policies and programmes to elevate the well-being of our people. From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never had it so good in governance and service delivery.

“Today, we unveil the new platform for the good people of Osun State. From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year.

“From Igbomina to Ijeshaland to Ifeland to Osogbo to Iwoland to Modakeke to Gbongan to Igbajo to Ikire to Ikirun to Ede and other lands of Osun state, we must thumb up according to our collective desires for good governance.

“Osun voted for good governance in 2022 and they will support continuity in 2026. The mass of our people are for continuity and Accord is our party for victory next year.”

The national secretary said the party was waxing stronger, adding that it had presidential, governorship and National Assembly aspirants ahead of 2023 elections.

Ajaja said she recently conducted the party’s primary election, which produced Dr Akin Ogunbiyi as the its candidate in Osun.

“We have been engaging and wooing people to the party. We have presidential aspirants, gubernatorial aspirants and aspirants for other elective posts.

“In fact, I was in Osun last week for the primary election of Dr Akin Ogunbiyi. I don’t want to mention names now because so many people are still coming to join us.

“I was told that Ogunbiyi is a popular candidate and I believe he is going to win,” she said.

The former lawmaker said that the two major political parties, APC and PDP, had failed Nigerians, saying that Accord Party had all it would take to fill the vacuum and turn things around for the better.

Ajaja said the so-called big parties were more than comfortable, adding that such made them selfish and careless about the masses.

She decried lack of internal democracy in other parties, urging them to learn from Accord Party, which she said conducted its primary without crisis.

“We have so many technocrats, professionals and people who have made it on their own before joining politics in our party.

“They are well-read and are grassroots politicians that understand the plights of the people,” she said.

Ajaja recounted her fall out with Ladoja when he denied her returning ticket as recommended by the national secretariat of the party.

According to her, the recommendation came from the national secretariat because of my performance in office as I did so well.

“I was denied the ticket because of reasons best known to him. He gave the ticket to the person I defeated in 2011, Gbenga Adewusi.

“I was forced to take him to court because I know what the party Constitution says. Before anybody can grab the ticket for any post, he or she must be a member for at least one year,” she said.

Ajaja, who claimed to be in possession of all the documents on her recommendation, said she took Ladoja to court because she felt it was a slap on her face.

“Our former leader, Ladoja dumped Accord Party in 2015 for PDP and later crossed to ADC before going to ZLP.

“When he was leaving Accord Party, he stated emphatically that the people would not hear about the name of the party again in Oyo State, but to the glory of God, he has been proved wrong,” she said.

Ajaja said she became the party’s National Secretary based on her immense contributions to the party, adding that she wanted the party to be more popular in Nigeria, especially in Oyo State.

The former lawmaker described Accord Party as a party to beat, saying that she wanted to become a strong third force.

Ajaja also spoke about her immense contributions to her constituency and how she touched the lives of the people.
