										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>An accident involving an articulated vehicle has claimed seven lives with 16 others injured along Agaie-Badegi Road, in Katcha local government area of Niger.</p>
<p>The Director-General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Minna.</p>
<p>He attributed the accident to a bad portion of the road on Lambata/Bida axis.</p>
<p>Baba-Arah stated that the truck was carrying federal government grains with passengers numbering about 36, all male, heading to Kano from Lagos State.</p>

<p>“As of the time of filing this report, seven people were confirmed dead, 11 people with high degree of injuries, while five people sustained minor injuries.</p>
<p>“Some of the injured were taken to Badeggi and Agaie health centres, and others were taken away by their colleagues,” he said.</p>
<p>The director general added that most of the dead have been taken away by their relatives.</p>
<p>He said that search and rescue operations were carried out by NSEMA alongside commuters and some villagers near the scene of the incident.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The police command in Ogun State has said that it is hunting for a driver involved in a lone accident in which one died, two injured at Odo Awele, along Lisa Road in Ogun.</p>
<p>The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, said, in a statement on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun State, that the driver, one Dapi Ajala, had not been found since the accident occurred on Monday.</p>
<p>Odutola said that the accident occurred when the truck loaded with sand and three loaders on top of the sand, crashed about 11.45 p.m.</p>
<p>She said the truck was going to Itoki from Lisa.</p>
<p>Odutola said that the driver was descending a hill when he lost control, the vehicle tumbled and fell on the loaders.</p>

<p>Odutola said that the three loaders who worked at Itoki Tipper garage were residents of the same address.</p>
<p>“The victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Faith Hospital, Ijoko, for treatment.</p>
<p>“One of the victims was later confirmed dead, and his remains have been released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites,” she said.</p>
<p>Odutola said that the other two victims were still receiving treatment at the hospital.</p>
<p>She said that efforts were on to apprehend the driver, who was at large.</p>
<p>She urged motorists to exercise caution, especially on hilly terrain, and ensure their vehicles were in good working condition to prevent such unfortunate accidents.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Two nurses were confirmed dead on Sunday while 10 others sustained injuries in a lone accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus around Akinale Village on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.</p>
<p>Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi,  spokesperson,  Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta.</p>
<p>He explained that the accident, which occurred at 9:20 a.m., was caused by excessive speed, use of handset by the driver which resulted in his losing control of the vehicle.</p>
<p>He noted that 18 people were involved in the accident, which comprised one male and 17 female nurses.</p>
<p>“One of the survivors said the driver of the Toyota Hiace bus, marked OG 49A 07,  who was speeding and as well using his cellphone while driving around a bend, lost control and summersaulted several times.</p>
<p>“The occupants in the bus were nurses who were all heading to a party to honour a matron in one of the hospitals in Abeokuta,” he said.</p>
<p>Akinbiyi explained that the injured were evacuated to Hope Hospital, Adigbe, Abeokuta, while the two corpses were deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta.</p>
<p>TRACE spokesman enjoined motorists to avoid excessive speed, especially during the rainy season, and also not to use mobile phone while driving.</p>
<p>He said most accidents were avoidable if rules and regulations were followed.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has confirmed the death of eight persons in another motor accident in Kogi</p>
<p>The casualty figure brings to 22, the number of people that lost their lives in road accidents in the state on Wednesday.</p>
<p>The state Sector Commander, Mr Solomon Aghure, had earlier in the day confirmed the death of 14 persons including 11 women and three men in an accident on Lokoja-Kabba road.</p>
<p>Aghure said in Lokoja that the second crash occurred on Kabba-Ayere road at about 11:30 p.m.</p>
<p>He said that the accident involved a truck and a Toyota Hiace passenger bus with registration number Bauchi MSA 942 XA.</p>
<p>Aghure said that 25 people, comprising 22 men, two women and a female child were involved in the second accident, saying that eight of the men lost their lives instantly.</p>
<p>The sector commander said that 17 persons injured were taken to General Hospital, Kabba, for treatment while corpses were deposited in the morgue.</p>
<p>He blamed the accident on speed limit violation and dangerous driving.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has said that one woman died while three children sustained various degrees of injuries in a road accident on Gbogan -Ibadan highway on Thursday.</p>
<p>The FRSC Sector Commander in Osun, Mrs Kudirat Ibrahim, disclosed this in a statement by the command spokeswoman,  Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi, in Osogbo.</p>
<p>Ibrahim attributed the cause of the accident to dangerous driving and speeding without adherence to road traffic regulations by the motorists involved.</p>
<p>According to her, the accident occurred on Gbongan -Ibadan highway, 23km away from Sasa bridge, Ikire.</p>
<p>She explained that the accident involved a private car &#8211; Toyota Corolla with registration number FKJ627EY which collided with a White DAF Truck with registration number XC606MKA.</p>
<p>The commander said that the three children, who sustained injury and shock were given first aid treatment by the FRSC ambulance team.</p>
<p>Ibrahim said that the body of the woman had been deposited at the mortuary at OAU Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife.</p>
<p>“All items found in the vehicles were handed over to the Nigerian Police Force, Ikire.</p>
<p>“The items include a black bag containing some personal effects, a brown suitcase, food items and a black purse containing a driver’s licence, first Bank ATM card and a sum of N18,610,” Ibrahim said .</p>
<p>She explained that a private car- Toyota Corolla with registration number  FKJ627EY and a White DAF Truck with registration number XC606MKA had a collision involving six persons, leading to one death.</p>
<p>The sector commander called on road users to comply with road safety regulations to avoid any unwanted situations which might lead to death.</p>
<p>Ibrahim, however, said safety on highways was a shared responsibilities which must not be left in the hands of the corps alone.</p>
<p>She added that everyone must be self -conscious while using the road.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Police Command in Niger says 23 persons lost their lives when a truck fully loaded with dozens of cows and 45 persons, skidded off the road and somersaulted into a bush.</p>
<p>The accident occurred at about 0500 hours along Bokani -Makera road in Mokwa local government area of the state, according to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Adamu Usman, who confirmed the accident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna, on Monday.</p>
<p>Usman said the truck, with registration Number BBJ 666 XA, was coming from Dadin Kowa, in Kebbi State, to Lagos when the incident occurred.</p>
<p>He explained that the corpses of the deceased, and the other 22 who sustained injuries, had been conveyed to the Mokwa General Hospital for postmortem and treatment respectively.</p>
<p>Usman, who attributed the accident to loss of control by the driver, lamented the failure of drivers to obey traffic rules and regulations.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Kwara, on Friday, confirmed that at least 10 persons lost their lives in an accident along Idofian-Ilorin Road.</p>
<p>The Kwara Sector Commander, Jonathan Owoade, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Ilorin that the fatal crash was as a result of speed limit violation and wrong overtaking.</p>
<p>Owoade said that the crash, which occurred near the UNILORIN Sugar Research Institute, involved two vehicles and 27 people.</p>
<p>He advised motorists to be patient while on the road, adding that they should reduce speed in order to stay alive.</p>
<p>“It is another sad incident occurring on the Idofian-Ilorin road axis.</p>
<p>“The fatal accident involved two vehicles – a commercial Nissan Vanette bus and a private Honda Accord car.</p>
<p>“Twenty-seven people were involved, sadly 10 died, nine of them burnt beyond recognition, while 16 persons sustained various degrees of injuries. One other person was rescued unhurt,’’ the Sector Commander said.</p>
<p>He explained that the response team of FRSC had taken the injured persons to Kwara State General Hospital and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH.</p>
<p>Some others were also taken to Ile Anu Medical Centre at Idofian.</p>
<p>Owoade said that the corpses had been deposited at UITH.</p>
<p>He urged those travelling on the route to be careful and ensure that their vehicles were in good condition.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, said three persons died in an accident at Lotto, opposite NNPC filling station on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Friday.</p>
<p>One person also sustained injuries in the accident which involved two vehicles, according to the agency.</p>
<p>Mr Olusola Ojuoro, the Mowe/Ibafo Area Commander of TRACE, told the <em>News Agency of Nigeria</em>, NAN, in Ota, Ogun State, that the <strong>accident</strong> happened at about 8.45 a.m.</p>
<p>Ojuoro said that an Iveco truck with registration number AAB 458 ZY was inbound Lagos when it lost control due to brake failure and crushed a Mazda bus marked XY 660 EKY.</p>
<p>“The corpses of the victims have been deposited at Idera Hospital Morgue, Ogun, while the survivor was taken to an undisclosed hospital by his relative,” he said.</p>
<p>The TRACE official cautioned motorists and truck drivers against exceeding speed limits.</p>
<p>He urged them to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before putting them on the road to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.</p>
<p>Ojuoro also commiserated with the families of those that lost their lives and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>President Muhammadu Buhari has enjoined vehicle owners to ensure roadworthiness to prevent road accidents and accompanying loss of lives.</p>
<p>This is as the initial reports on the Enugu road accident  in which scores of people died, most of them school pupils, was attributed to brake-failure by the truck involved.</p>
<p>In a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina, President Buhari expressed sadness of the Mgbowu, Awgu local government area accident.</p>
<p>The president condoled families and kith and kin of the dead, praying that God would grant them succour, and spare the country of such tragedy in future.</p>
<p>He also commiserated with the Catholic Church of Awgu, which runs Presentation Nursery and Primary School that the pupils attended, and the <strong>Enugu</strong> State government.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, said that five persons died while one was injured on Thursday in a multiple accident after Sagamu Interchange, on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.</p>
<p>Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Ogun Public Relation Officer of TRACE, disclosed this in a statement made available to the <em>News Agency of Nigeria</em>, NAN, in Ota, Ogun.</p>
<p>Akinbiyi said that the multiple accident, which happened at about 9.30 a.m., was caused by reckless driving and  wrongful overtaking.</p>
<p>He said that three vehicles comprising a Daf tanker with no registration number, a Benz truck marked FST 340 XW, and a Mazda space bus marked GGE 296 DC, were involved in the accident.</p>
<p>The TRACE official said that five persons died while one sustained injuries in the accident.</p>
<p>“The corpses of victims have been deposited at Idera Hospital morgue, Sagamu, while the survivor is also receiving treatment in the same hospital,” he said.</p>
<p>Akinbiyi said that the three vehicles involved had been taken to Police MTD Area Command, Sagamu, Ogun.</p>
<p>He advised motorists to refrain from reckless driving and wrongful overtaking that could lead to unnecessary loss of lives.</p>
<p>Akinbiyi condoled with the family members of those that lost their lives in the <strong>multiple accident</strong>.</p>
