The army said the operations were conducted on May 9 by troops of 176 Guards Battalion and Guards Brigade Garrison at different locations within the nation’s capital.

It said troops on routine foot patrol around the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday intercepted a suspected spy loitering within a restricted area.

According to the report, items recovered from the suspect include a wallet containing two ATM cards, receipts and passport photographs.

“The suspect is currently in custody for further investigation.

“In a separate operation, troops of the Guards Brigade Garrison arrested four suspected impostors at about 9:00 a.m. the same day at Gwarinpa, along Dantata Estate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

“The suspects were reportedly dressed in military camouflage at the time of arrest.

“Items recovered from them include one ballistic helmet, one fragmentation jacket, a dagger, two motorcycles, four mobile phones and other sundry items.

“The suspects are currently in custody while investigations are ongoing,” the report said.

The Nigerian Army said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to tighten security around sensitive locations in the FCT and prevent infiltration by criminal elements.

The report said that the operation was conducted on Thursday at about 15;00 hours at Vom community, following credible human intelligence on the activities of illegal arms manufacturers in the area.

It said troops of OPEP carried out a well-coordinated raid on two identified fabrication sites, where the suspects were caught in the act of manufacturing illegal weapons.

“During the operation, five suspects were arrested, while troops recovered nine fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, seven skeleton AK-47 rifles, four empty magazines, and 10 rifle butt stocks.

“Other items recovered include 36 empty shells of 7.62mm special ammunition, four revolver components, 14 recoiling springs, six hand drilling machines, nine filing machines, four welding machines, and other assorted tools used for arms fabrication,” it said.

The report added that the suspects and recovered exhibits were currently in custody for further investigation.

It also said that follow-up covert operations were ongoing to consolidate gains and mop up remaining illegal arms networks within the Plateau operational environment.

According to the report, the operation forms part of sustained efforts by OPEP to curb illicit arms proliferation and strengthen peace and security in the North-Central region.

The board disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday in Abuja.

Benjamin said a total of 1,264,940 results from the two examination days were now available for candidates to access.

He advised candidates to check their results by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number used for registration.

According to him, the board had earlier released 632,752 results of candidates who sat for the examination on April 16.

He said the latest release brought the total number of results made available so far to 1,897,692.

Benjamin reiterated the board’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible and technology-driven examination process nationwide.

Wike, who made the reaction on Monday, after he inspected ongoing projects in Abuja, described the claims as “baseless”, insisting that no formal application to use the facility was submitted.

The ADC raised concerns over difficulties in securing a venue for its national convention, scheduled for Tuesday in Abuja.

Chairman of the party’s Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the convention, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the claim on Monday.

Ologbondiyan said that the party had yet to receive approval for a venue less than 24 hours before the event.

The minister said: “Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development.

“If it is the African Democratic Congress, such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy.”

He explained that the use of Eagle Square was subject to due process, which includes formal application through the Abuja Investments Company Ltd, in charge of the facility and payment of required fees.

The minister also pointed out that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome is not under the FCT Administration, but the National Sports Commission.

“As we speak, no formal application has been submitted to the Abuja Investments Company Ltd.

“When the All Progressives Congress used the venue and Peoples Democratic Party used the Stadium’s Velodrome, they complied with the process.

“We do not deny anyone access if the rules are followed,” he added.

Speaking on the inspected projects, the minister expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far, assuring that key road projects would be completed by May 15.

“The contractors have assured us that road projects will be completed by May 15, while streetlight installations will be finalised before the end of May,” he said.

At Gaduwa, Wike said he had directed the installation of protective mesh to prevent encroachment on the road corridors, while works on streetlights were progressing.

At Wassa, the minister disclosed that the FCT Administration was set to relocate artisans and spare part dealers, operating at Apo Mechanic on the Outer Southern Expressway Road corridor.

He said that traders and artisans would be relocated to a new facility equipped with necessary infrastructure.

“This project is aimed at improving the working conditions of artisans and fulfilling long-standing promises to the informal sector,” he said.

Wike attributed the steady progress of projects in the FCT to effective collaboration between the government and contractors, supported by prompt payment of contractual obligations.

A statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja, said the update was aimed at strengthening coordination and ensuring a smooth and credible convention.

The party had earlier released its National Convention Central Coordination Committee, with Sen. Liyel Imoke as the chairman and Sen. Aminu Tambuwal as the deputy chairman.

The party urged all committee members to discharge their responsibilities with diligence and called on stakeholders to support the process.

The updated lists signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo reads: “The ADC has approved the nomination of the following persons to serve on the convention planning committee for the national convention to be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.”

The updated convention committee list had 16 sub-committees, including logistics, electoral, accommodation, venue, security, finance, media and publicity, delegate accreditation and welfare, among others.

The heavy security presence, comprising personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, DSS, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, was deployed to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

The security operatives are currently conducting rigorous screening of delegates, party stakeholders and observers at the entry points to the venue.

Strategically positioned patrol vehicles are also manning access gates and various points within and around the stadium premises to maintain order.

Inside the Velodrome, delegates from several states have already taken their seats.

They include delegates from Osun, Ondo, Kano, Katsina, Nasarawa, Rivers, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Kogi, Plateau, Oyo and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, among others.

The seating arrangements were organised for states in alphabetical order to facilitate a seamless voting process.

In line with statutory requirements, a delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is already seated to monitor the proceedings of the elective convention.

The voting cubicles have been set, as the delegates wait for the official commencement of the programme.

The theme of the national convention, expected to be attended by a total of 2,500 delegates, is: “A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal.”

Party leaders expected at the convention are Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, among several others.

Disu gave the warning on Monday in Abuja at the decoration ceremony of the newly promoted AIGs and CPs.

“From this moment, you are no longer just senior officers; you are strategic leaders of the Nigeria Police Force.

”You are expected to lead from the front. Your actions, decisions, and personal conduct must reflect discipline, integrity, and absolute respect for the rule of law.

”You must ensure zero tolerance for indiscipline, abuse of office, corruption, or dereliction of duty under your commands,” he said.

The I-G urged the senior officers to take full responsibility for the conduct of personnel under their watch by ensuring firm, consistent, and effective supervision.

”You must know what is happening within your commands at all times. Lax supervision breeds misconduct; strong leadership enforces standards.

”I will hold you accountable for both operational outcomes and the behaviour of officers under your authority,” he added.

Disu said that the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership was firmly committed to people-oriented policing, adding that, it was not optional, but a core operational principle.

He urged the senior officers to ensure that policing in their jurisdictions were driven by professionalism, respect for human rights, and responsiveness to public needs.

He emphasised that officers must be visible, approachable, and accountable, adding that, the era of policing that alienated the people was over.

”We must build trust deliberately and consistently. Intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and effective law enforcement are all strengthened when the public have confidence in us.

”You must also drive reforms within your areas of responsibility, embrace innovation, strengthen operational efficiency, and eliminate outdated practices that do not align with modern policing standards,” he stressed.

He noted that the promotion of the senior officers was the outcome of a deliberate, merit-based process designed to reinforce professionalism, competence, and integrity within the Nigeria Police Force.

He added that the officers earned the advancement through years of service and demonstrated ability, adding that the promotion was not a reward, but a responsibility.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, Mr Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

Unyimadu said the new timetable would take effect on Friday, March 6, and was aimed at providing more travel options, enhancing operational flexibility, and strengthening service delivery on the busy route.

“The corridor earlier experienced operational disruptions following the March 28, 2022 bomb blast and the August 26, 2025 derailment.

“This led to a reduction in rolling stock from three to one, the introduction of Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR) for safety, and an adjustment in the number of daily trips.

“With stability now restored and in response to sustained passenger demand, the corporation has expanded services to better meet commuters’ expectations, in addition to the earlier relaxation of some temporary speed restrictions,” he said.

He added that under the revised schedule, passengers travelling between Idu and Rigasa would enjoy three trips on Fridays and Sundays, as well as on Saturdays and Mondays.

He stated that two trips would continue to operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“Specifically, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Idu–Rigasa service departs Idu at 8.45 a.m. and returns from Rigasa at 2.30 p.m.

“On Fridays and Sundays, three trips operate, with departures from Idu at 7.45 a.m. and 3.15 p.m., and from Rigasa at 11.30 a.m.

“On Saturdays and Mondays, services depart Rigasa at 7.15 a.m. and 3.00 p.m., and from Idu at 11.00 a.m., with all trains making scheduled stops at Kubwa,” he said.

He advised passengers to take note of the new timetable and plan their journeys accordingly.

Unyimadu reiterated that the NRC remained committed to improving capacity, reliability, safety, and the overall passenger experience across its network.
