This was made known on Friday by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement his issued.

Heritage, who resided in one of the private hostels, BVER, fell into the septic tank of the hostel through an opening that was allegedly not properly covered.

The incident occurred on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Olarewaju said the owner of the private hostel, BVER, where the incidence occurred had been issued a query by the university management and his response was being awaited.

He explained that all the hostels in the students village are privately owned and they are not under the control of the university.

According to him, the university management presently only had oversight functions on the private hostels.

The new dates which start from Saturday, February 27, 2021, will be conducted in two centres – Ile-Ife and Abuja.

A statement release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the Post UTME Screening Exercise, which will be conducted in Ile-Ife centre, between Saturday, February 27 and Wednesday, March 3, 2021 would be on OAU campus and its Centre for Distance Learning, in Moro.

The Abuja centre, the school management said, would hold on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the JAMB CBT Centre, Bwari, Abuja.

“In view of this, candidates are advised to log in to the https://admissions. oauife.edu.ng to print out their Screening Slips which contain actual dates and venues for each of them, beginning from Sunday, 14th February, 2021,” the statement reads in part.

The university management also enjoined all candidates to adhere strictly to their respective schedules and comply fully with all COVID-19 protocols as recommended by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

Omotola died on Friday when he suddenly slumped while playing football with his colleagues.

“The management hereby commiserates with the parents, family, classmates, colleagues and the entire University Community over this irreparable loss. And may the good Lord grant us all the fortitude to bear the loss,” the university said in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju.

In the condolence message, the university said it regretted to announce the death of the student.

According to it, the student was playing football with his colleagues when he suddenly slumped.

“He was subsequently rushed to the University Health Centre where he was confirmed dead on arrival. All measures to resuscitate him proved abortive,” the university stated.

The university gave this assurance against the backdrop of a statement by “a supposed student of the university expressing a personal opinion that the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, was not welcome in OAU.”

In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the university said its “Council, Management, Senate, Staff, STUDENTS, and the entire Community of OAU hold the office of Vice President and the person of Professor Yemi Osinbajo in highest esteem and shall never hesitate to continue in that manner.”

He said contrary to the said statement, “the OAU Community, particularly the Students, are eagerly waiting for a day when either President Muhammadu Buhari or Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, or both of them, will come to OAU on a visit.”

According to him, “the community is ready to give a rousing welcome to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria and renowned Professor of Law whose brilliant performance in the present administration has done the academic community proud.”

The institution advised the general public to disregard, in it’s entirety, the release by anybody which might run  contrary to the motto of the university: For Learning and Culture.

Olarewaju reassured students that the present University academic calendar was on course and remained sacrosanct.

In a related development, Olarewaju said the university, as approved by its Senate, had decided to, during its 43rd combined convocations, award an Honorary Degree to “a very distinguished Nigerian academic and radical intellectual activist, Professor Biodun Jeyifo, English Professor Emeritus at Cornell University.”

Jeyifo is currently, Professor of African and African and American Studies and of Comparative Literature at Harvard University, in the United States of America (USA).
