The Ogun Police Command on Thursday arrested a seven-man gang that specialise in trading in human parts for rituals.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu, said that a human heart and two kegs filled with human bodies were parts of exhibits recovered from the suspects.

The men arrested, according to Alamutu were Moses Abidemi; Oluwo Monday; Prophet Peter Akiwunmi Ifatosin; Jamiu Yusuf; Sheriff Agbai and Osojieahen Alioneitoura.

The police boss said the Divisional Police Office, Onipanu, received a report of a missing lady, Ms Sulaiimon Adijat on January 9 who was invited out on a date by one Adebayo Azeez.

“Despite frantic efforts to locate her whereabouts, the mobile phone has been switched off since the day she was reported missing .

“Consequently, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command was drafted to unravel the mystery behind her disappearance and a technical based investigation was embarked on,” the CP said.

According to him, the investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in money ritual known as ‘Oshole’ to produce N200 million within seven days.

READ ALSO: FG to prosecute anyone engaging apprentice below 12 years

“Oluwo Monday charged the duo of Agbai and Alioneitouria N800,000 to prepare the materials for the ritual money.

“Oluwo Monday, in furtherance of his criminal intention, later contacted one Peter, who was not new in the trade of human parts, to source for a lady between the age of 18 and 20 years.”

The CP said Peter was to deliver the lady’s mutilated body parts, especifically the head, two breasts, private part two wrists that would be used for the ritual.

“However, on January 10, Sheriff and Osojieahen collected the ritual money from Oluwo and travelled back to their location in Edo State.

“Trouble started when Osojieahen used the ritual element as directed by Oluwo, and complained bitterly that it failed to yield the expected sum of N200 million in seven days.

“A search was conducted in the shrine of Moses on February 3 and 10, where female handbags, two cement sacks containing human bones were recovered.”

The CP said that all the suspects confessed to the alleged crime and their individual roles.

He said that investigation was ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.

The management of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, has pledged to boost nature conservation by taking appropriate measures to preserve wildlife, protect nature and reverse species loss in the seat of government.

Permanent Secretary, State House, Tijjani Umar, gave the assurance at the weekend while receiving a delegation of rangers from the National Park Service, and their colleagues in the Presidential Villa, popularly called ‘Royal Rangers.’

Umar, who stressed the importance of protecting and preserving plants and animals in their indigenous habitats, expressed concern at the recent killing of wildlife species in the Villa.

He announced that some locations in the Presidential Villa – which is a natural habitat to some wildlife species including tantalus monkeys, crocodile, pythons, giant tortoise, bush rats, guinea fowls, bats and diverse species of birds – had been delineated as conservationist areas.

The Permanent Secretary, therefore, appealed to staff and visitors to the Villa to preserve biodiversity and appreciate the natural world, adding that signages would be erected in specific areas and vegetation for sensitization and compliance.

The Permanent Secretary also used the occasion to congratulate Royal Rangers and their colleagues around the country on the occasion of this year’s World Ranger Day, commemorated on July 31.

He recognised the commitment of the Royal Rangers in preserving the flora, fauna and other natural resources around the Presidential Villa.

‘‘We will continue to support you to do your work effectively. The protection of the eco-system and the species in the Villa is not for the rangers alone, it is a task for all of us,’’ the Permanent Secretary said.

Umar also paid tribute to a staff of the Royal Rangers, Murtala Odi, who died from diabetes-related complications, praying God to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.

In their separate remarks, Salihu Manzo, Senior Park Ranger and Kehinde Abidemi, Assistant Conservator of Parks, thanked the Permanent Secretary for his keen interest in conservation activities and for approving specific measures to preserve the flora and fauna in the environment.

Manzo, who described the recent killing of a giant python as regrettable, expressed delight that measures were being taken to protect wildlife species.

Abidemi explained that the International Ranger Federation and its collaborators had chosen Diversity as the theme for World Ranger Day 2022, noting that they believed that diversity among Rangers should be embraced just as humanity should appreciate diversity in the natural world.

”We want to echo it with the management that the wildlife species in the Villa have the right to live, they have the right to their habitat and we want them to be protected,” she said.

A businesswoman, Asiata Oladejo, told a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan to grant her divorce on grounds that her estranged husband, Abidemi, was undependable and had abandoned her at the mercy of armed robbers.

Oladejo, made the submission on Wednesday in her counter argument in the divorce suit filed by her husband.

“My Lord, I am yet to recover from the shock I experienced when a gang of thieves caused an uproar in our house.

“He hid in the toilet, leaving me to pant in front of armed robbers who terrorised the entire residents of the house.

“My lord, when the thieves arrived at around 1 a.m. on that night, my husband was nowhere to be found to defend the children and I.

“Unknown to me, he hid in the toilet. He only came out when they had gone. My husband wanted us to continue living in that house,” she said.

She said that she begged him to rent another apartment, but he refused.

She accused her husband of being a habitual womaniser.

Abidemi, who is a fashion designer, earlier said that his wife was ill-tempered.

“She comes to my shop unannounced to torment me.

“It is true that I hid in the toilet when armed robbers attacked our house. All the attempts I made to bring her back home failed because she said she was unnecessarily scared,” he said.

He prayed the court to grant him custody of the three children because he had been a responsible father.

Delivering judgment, the president of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, granted the order restraining Oladejo, from threatening, harassing and interfering in the private life of Abidemi.

Akintayo granted custody of the three children to Oladejo, adding that she was in the best position to cater for them.

“Both petitioner and respondent shall be responsible for the education and other welfare of the children.

“In addition, Abidemi shall pay a monthly feeding allowance of N20,000 for the children’s upkeep.

“Both of you must maintain peace and order,” Akintayo held.

She however, noted that there was no marriage to dissolve between the couple because their union could not be considered as a marriage.

Akintayo added that it was not in accordance with laid down customary laws of Nigeria.
