A statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja, said the update was aimed at strengthening coordination and ensuring a smooth and credible convention.

The party had earlier released its National Convention Central Coordination Committee, with Sen. Liyel Imoke as the chairman and Sen. Aminu Tambuwal as the deputy chairman.

The party urged all committee members to discharge their responsibilities with diligence and called on stakeholders to support the process.

The updated lists signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo reads: “The ADC has approved the nomination of the following persons to serve on the convention planning committee for the national convention to be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.”

The updated convention committee list had 16 sub-committees, including logistics, electoral, accommodation, venue, security, finance, media and publicity, delegate accreditation and welfare, among others.

The director of the service, Alhaji Sani Anas, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Monday.

According to Anas, the incident occurred at Madinawa area, behind Seven-Up, in Kumbotso local government area.

“We received a distress call from Murtala Muhammed, Deputy Criminal Operations (DCO) of Mariri Police Division that an unidentified man had fallen into an open water,” he said.

Anas said that upon receiving the report, a rescue team from the agency’s headquarters was immediately deployed to the scene.

He added that the victim was brought out dead from the water and his body was handed over to the DCO for further investigation.

The director urged members of the public to refrain from bathing in open water to avoid such incident.

You lament fuel prices, but say nothing of the fraud that sustained the subsidy regime—an open hemorrhage of public funds that enriched a cartel while impoverishing a nation. You mourn the consequences, yet remain silent on the cause. That is not analysis; it is intellectual evasion.

Nigeria deserves more than rehearsed cynicism disguised as critique. It deserves clarity. It deserves honesty. It deserves people who, at the very least, understand the problem before attempting to narrate it.

You invoke insecurity with the solemnity of a eulogy, yet with the depth of a slogan. Terrorism did not arrive with this government; it was cultivated—watered by years of indecision, politicization, and strategic drift. To now weaponize its existence in a birthday message is not just tasteless—it is profoundly unserious.

Then comes the predictable sermon on hardship. As though reform is a dinner party. As though correcting years of economic distortion comes without discomfort. Every serious nation that has confronted structural rot has passed through this phase. The difference is that serious observers understand this. Casual critics write letters.

And your closing flourish—this tired warning about a “one-party state”—is perhaps the weakest note of all. Political migration is not tyranny; it is gravity. When platforms collapse under the weight of their own emptiness, people move. That is not democracy dying—it is relevance shifting.

But let us be honest: your letter is not about governance. It is about posture. A performance of outrage, carefully worded, conveniently timed, and entirely devoid of solutions. Not a single pathway offered. Not one alternative proposed. Just indignation—polished and published.

It is easy to write from the sidelines. To critique without consequence. To moralize without responsibility. But governance is not a column—it is a burden. One that requires decisions, trade-offs, and the courage to be unpopular in the short term to secure the long term.

You suggest others are not “taking governance seriously.” Yet seriousness is not measured by the sharpness of one’s pen, but by the weight one is willing to carry.

On that measure, your letter is light—painfully light.

This is contained in a statement by the National Organising Secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo, and the National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, on Sunday in Abuja.

The statement said that the polling unit and ward congresses would hold on April 7, followed by local government area congresses on April 9 and state congresses on April 11.

It disclosed that the process would culminate in the party’s national convention scheduled for April 14.

The party advised members interested in contesting vacant positions to obtain and submit the relevant nomination or expression of interest forms through the official ADC website.

“This process forms part of the party’s constitutional responsibility to renew its leadership structures across all levels of the organisation, culminating in the national convention.

“The approved timetable is as follows: Polling Unit and Ward Congresses, April 7 2026, local government, April 9, State, April 11, and national convention, April 14, 2026.

“Forms and further information are available via the official ADC website, www.adc.org.ng,” the statement said.

It urged members nationwide to participate in the process and conduct themselves in accordance with the constitution, guidelines, and democratic values of the ADC.

The director of the service, Alhaji Sani Anas, disclosed this in a statement signed by the service Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Friday in Kano.

Anas said, “We received a distress call from one Mr Joseph, that there is a raging fire at the complex located in Dakata area of the state.

“Upon receiving the report, we immediately sent fire-fighters from the headquarters, Dakata Fire Station, and Rijiyar Zaki Fire Station to the scene.”

Anas said that the complex was divided into four sections as plots A, B, C and D, comprising about 506 stalls.

“Out of the total number of stalls, about 100 stalls were completely destroyed by the fire.

“The estimated financial loss from the incident was between N700 million and N800 million,” he said.

Anas further explained that preliminary information from the complex secretary indicated that the fire was allegedly caused by children who lit fire in an open place to keep warm.

He said the fire was successfully brought under control through prompt intervention of fire-fighters, who deployed four fire engines to contain the inferno and prevent its further spread.

Anas advised the public to take necessary precautions against fire outbreaks while they should avoid open flames in public places and industrial areas.

He said, “We received a distress call from one Sulaiman Abdullahi-Tela on Thursday afternoon that Malam-Gwani had fallen into an open water.

“Upon receiving the report, a rescue team from the agency’s headquarters was immediately deployed to the scene.”

He said the victim was brought out dead from the open water and was handed over to Ward Head of Bachirawa Quarters, Jibrin Isah.

In another development, an eight year-old boy, identified as Abdussalam Ibrahim, fell into a well at Kofar Yamma, Karaye town, Karaye local government area.

Abdullahi said, “We received a distress call from one of  our staff members, Murtala Magaji, about the incident on Thursday afternoon.

“Upon receiving the report, a rescue team was immediately deployed to the scene.”

Abdullahi said the victim was also brought out dead and was subsequently handed over to his father, Malam Musa-Mudi.

He urged the members of the public to take necessary safety precautions around open wells, open water sources, and other hazardous areas, especially to protect children.

“The service expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” Abdullahi said.

He said, “We received a distress call from one Dan Asabe Rabiu on Friday morning at about 7:50 a.m. reporting the disappearance of Badamasi.

“Upon receiving the report, a rescue team from the agency’s headquarters was immediately deployed to the scene.

“On arrival, it was gathered that Badamasi, had been missing since Thursday evening, with his parents suspecting that he might have fallen into a well.”

Abdullahi explained that fire fighters promptly entered the well and rescued the child unconscious, but he was later confirmed dead.

The victim was handed over to the Ward Head of Wangara Village for burial.

He said, “The Kano State Fire Service expresses deep condolences to the bereaved family and urges the residents to cover open wells and take adequate measures around other hazardous areas, particularly to safeguard children.”

The court dismissed the appeal of the convicts for lack of merit.

The appellate panel, comprising Justice Ridwan Abdullahi, Justice Gabriel Kolawole and Justice Abdul Dogo, upheld the judgment of Justice Haleemah Saleeman of the Kwara High Court which sentenced the appellants to death by hanging.

The convicts are Niyi Ogundiran, Salawu Azeez, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Ayoade Akinnibosun and Adeola Abraham.

In its ruling, the court rejected all the grounds of appeal filed by the appellants and ordered their immediate return to prison custody.

The convictions arose from the coordinated bank robbery carried out in April 2018 in Offa, headquarters of Offa local government area of Kwara, during which five commercial banks were attacked.

No fewer than 32 persons, including nine police officers, were killed during the attacks.

The convicts were found guilty of armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and culpable homicide.

A sixth suspect, who was a retired police officer, Michael Adikwu, died in custody before the commencement of the trial.

Justice Saleeman had earlier sentenced the five convicts to death by hanging after a trial that lasted about six years and attracted nationwide attention.

The lead prosecution counsel, Mr Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), described the appellate court’s decision as thorough and well considered, inspite of the prolonged delays that characterised the trial.

Mr Abdullah Jimba, counsel to one of the convicts, said preparations were underway to pursue a final appeal at the Supreme Court.

Mr Edoyemi Ogoh, Director of Technical Standards and Network Integrity at the NCC, made this known on Wednesday during the virtual presentation of the commission’s fourth quarter 2025 industry network performance report.

Ogoh said that the results reflected steady progress in nationwide mobile deployment across trunk, primary and secondary roads, which formed the backbone of connectivity for economic and social activities.

He said environmental and terrain-related factors still affected signal quality and consistency, particularly in rural, border and hard-to-reach locations.

“Our highways are largely covered, but natural obstacles such as hills, forests and difficult terrain continue to degrade signal quality in certain areas,” Ogoh said.

He said the NCC was prioritising low-band spectrum deployment, including sub-1 GHz frequencies such as 700 MHz, with discussions ongoing around 600 MHz, to improve penetration and extend coverage with fewer base stations.

Ogoh said this approach aligned with the Draft Spectrum Roadmap for the Communications Sector 2025–2030, which supports rural broadband expansion, 4G densification and 5G services in major urban centres.

He added that broadband penetration surpassed 50 per cent in 2025, while median 4G speeds improved following spectrum optimisation and spectrum trading arrangements between MTN and T2.

Ogoh noted that although mobile licences carried nationwide rollout obligations, operators often prioritised densely populated areas due to economic considerations.

To complement terrestrial networks, he said the commission introduced the Aeronautical Station Emission framework to license broadband services on trains, buses, maritime vessels and aircraft.

Providing further insight into how the commission evaluates real-world performance, Mr Umar Abdullahi, Special Adviser to the Executive Vice Chairman on Technical Matters, explained the assessment methodology.

Abdullahi said the NCC combined crowdsourced network measurements from platforms such as Ookla with geospatial road maps to analyse user experience across Nigeria’s road network.

He said the analysis showed strong signals along major economic corridors linking Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, while weaker connectivity persisted in border towns and insecure rural areas.

“These gaps are not about the absence of infrastructure but about propagation challenges caused by terrain and vegetation,” Abdullahi said.

He explained that higher-frequency bands struggled to overcome natural barriers, causing service degradation and fallback from 4G to older networks in difficult environments.

Abdullahi said the report identified about 326 kilometres of primary roads with zero-service zones, a small fraction of Nigeria’s more than 290,000-kilometre road network.

He added that trunk roads with lower population density recorded lower quality compliance, while secondary roads serving communities generally performed better.

Responding to stakeholder concerns over fluctuations along Benin corridors and in Niger, Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states, Abdullahi said the NCC engaged operators using detailed maps and analytics for targeted solutions.

He said the commission also encouraged alternative infrastructure approaches, including microwave backhaul, in remote locations where fibre deployment was either difficult or commercially unattractive.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Gombe.

Abdullahi said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Dukku Divisional Headquarters at 11 a.m. on January 15.

He listed the suspects as Kabiru Abubakar, 29, Abubakar Aliyu, 30, Abdulrahman Mustapha, 22, and Isah Alhasan, 45, from Dukku, Kaduna and Kano.

“The suspects were arrested in possession of three hundred and four pieces of counterfeit United States 100-dollar notes,” Abdullahi said.

He said investigations revealed the suspects confessed and implicated another suspect as the supplier of the counterfeit notes.

In a related development, Abdullahi said two other suspects were arrested the same day with substances suspected to be mercury.

“They admitted the substance was allegedly used in producing counterfeit currency,” he said.

The spokesperson said five additional suspects were arrested for various crimes, including a suspected bandit, with dangerous exhibits recovered.

He added that a kidnapped victim was rescued unhurt during one of the operations.

Abdullahi said all suspects remained in police custody as investigations continued at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
