The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, has affirmed Nigeria’s important role in global gas exportation and energy stability.

This is contained in a statement issued by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Tuggar’s Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy.

The statement is against the backdrop of the recent election of Dr Philip Mshelbila, Managing-Director of Nigeria LNG Limited, NLNG, as Secretary-General of the GECF, during the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the forum in Doha, Qatar.

Also Mr Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) was chosen as the President of the 2026 GECF Ministerial Meeting.

According to him, Nigeria’s growing role within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, GECF, underscores the country’s centrality to shaping sustainable energy.

Tuggar said, “Nigeria’s growing stature in global energy diplomacy has been reaffirmed through its recent success at the 27 Ministerial Meeting of GECF.

“Such is a gathering that brings together the world’s leading gas-producing nations to coordinate policies and promote energy security, and market stability.

“Nigeria’s securing these global leadership positions was made possible through sustained energy diplomacy and strategic engagement led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“This outcome is the product of deliberate, quiet diplomacy and Nigeria’s sustained engagement with fellow gas-exporting nations.”

“It validates the confidence of the international community in Nigeria’s integrity, competence, and leadership within the global energy transition space.”

He commended Mshelbila and Ekpo, assuring that they would represent Nigeria with distinction working closely with other member states to deepen cooperation, strengthen market stability, and advance balanced, inclusive, and sustainable global gas market.

“Mshelbila’s election and Minister Ekpo’s new mandate both reflect our country’s commitment to promoting cooperation, market stability, and inclusivity across the gas value chain.

“Under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria continues to project responsible energy leadership rooted in democracy, development, and diplomacy,” he added.

Tuggar highlighted the pivotal diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Nigeria’s embassies and high commissions, to have been instrumental in securing widespread support for Nigeria’s candidature.

He further said that such efforts were reinforced by bilateral engagements at key international fora, including the BRICS Summit in Brazil and the African Union’s Seventh Mid-Year Coordination Meeting in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

Also the campaign benefitted from high-level political backing from the Presidency, ensuring Nigeria’s victory enjoyed continental and global endorsement.

Nigeria is Africa’s largest gas producer with proven reserves exceeding 210 trillion cubic feet (Tcf).

Nigeria has initiated policies like the “Decade of Gas” to boost gas production, expand infrastructure, and leverage its position as a key energy supplier.

Two teachers of Zaria Children School, Kaduna State, were on Thursday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Tudun-Wada Zaria, over alleged defilement of a minor student.

Zaria Children School, located at Queen Elizabeth Road, G.R.A, Zaria, is one of the famous and oldest schools in the city, which was built by the colonial masters.

The prosecutor, ASC Mustapha Abdulkadir, said the two teachers and three other teachers (now at large) were standing trial on charge hinged on an unnatural offence (lesbianism).

He said the alleged offence is contrary to section 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017.

The prosecutor told the court that on September 11, one Yahaya Aliyu of Tudun Jukun area, Zaria, came to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Zaria Area Command and reported against the defendants.

He said the defendants are Atoyebi-Eunice Temitope (female) of No. 2, Dogon Bauchi, Sabon Gari, Zaria and Adeyemo Damilola (female) of Hanwa New Extension, Zaria and three others now at large.

According to the prosecutor, the defendants are teachers at Zaria Children School.

He alleged that sometimes on September 18, when the nominal complainant’s wife was bathing the victim, an 11-year-old pupil and a Junior Secondary School (JSS-1) student at the school, she observed that the victim was molested.

“Upon interrogation at home, the victim mentioned the names of the defendants and alleged that it started sometimes in 2023, when the victim was in primary three.

“The victim also alleged that the first defendant, Temitope (known to the victim as Mrs Okasha) took the victim to a toilet near class 4A during long break lesson period and put an object into her private part.

“She alleged that the incident happened over three different times and further alleged that Mrs Okasha threatened to inform kidnappers to abduct her if she disclose the affair to anybody,’’ he said.

The prosecutor also told the court that on September 16, when the school resumed, the second defendant Adeyemo Damilola called the victim upstairs (the secondary school section) and entered female toilet with her.

READ ALSO: Troops kill dozens, nab 120 criminals, rescue 41 victims

He added that while in the female toilet, the second defendant inserted something into her private part using an object that looks like a syringe.

The prosecutor told the court that the alleged actions of the defendants violate section 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017 as amended.

The presiding judge, Senior Magistrate Rabi Hashim adjourned matter till October 22, for further mention, pending legal advice from the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice.

She also ordered that the defendants be remanded at Zaria Correctional Centre.

News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, contacted the school on the matter for possible hint on the three staff still at large.

However, Mr Apoju Sunday-Adeyemi, principal of the school, who did not deny the allegations against the teachers said the issues were still allegations and investigations were ongoing.

“I don’t want to comment further on a matter that is before the court of law,’’ he said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has urged the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, to leverage strategic communication to promote Nigeria’s image and strengthen its bilateral relations on the global stage.

Tuggar made the call in a message delivered by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, Mr Alkasim Abdulkadir, during the Nigeria Reputation Management, NRMG, Retreat on Tuesday in Abuja.

The NRMG, an initiative of NIPR, aims to reshape Nigeria’s global perception and national narrative.

He stated that in an era of contested and often manipulated media spaces, the role of public relations professionals had become critical, not just in managing reputations but in defining Nigeria’s story with clarity, integrity, and purpose.

Tuggar called on the NRMG to view its mission as a national one, beyond institutional boundaries, emphasising the need to promote a unified ethos built on resilience, innovation, and shared national values.

“The NRMG is uniquely positioned to reclaim Nigeria’s narrative, correct misrepresentations, amplify achievements, and highlight our leaders as custodians of democratic accountability.

READ ALSO: How KYC not PEP helps Fintech growth

“Your role in fighting fake news, disinformation, and foreign manipulation is vital,” he said.

He added that under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, communication must also serve as a diplomatic tool to foster unity, attract investment, and reinforce Nigeria’s voice globally.

NIPR President, Dr Ike Neliaku, said the issue with Nigeria’s reputation was not the absence of success stories but a failure to tell them adequately.

He cited achievements such as the Super Falcons’ recent victory and the global recognition of young Nigerian talents.

“We under-tell our stories and over-tell those of others. It’s time to change that.

“Nigeria remains the greatest country on earth by many standards. Narrative and storytelling will reshape our global image,” Neliaku said.

Also speaking, Mr John Momoh, Chairman of the NRMG Body of Advisers, commended the Super Falcons for their recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations victory.

He described it as more than a sporting milestone, calling it a powerful story of resilience and excellence.

Momoh emphasised that national reputation must be built not only on image but on consistent performance and values.

“The world hears about our setbacks, but not our strengths. Our task is to build a unified, credible, and compelling national narrative.”

The retreat attracted key stakeholders in communication, public relations, and national development sectors.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday, has clarified that Nigeria is not on the list of countries facing an entry ban into Saudi Arabia from April 13.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, issued the clarification through a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir.

The minister said Saudi authorities had officially confirmed that the viral memo suggesting Nigeria’s inclusion in the ban list was false.

He called the document, which named Nigeria, Egypt, India, Pakistan and others as banned, misleading and inaccurate.

“The Saudi Tourism Centre confirmed no such directive exists. Current official travel guidelines only apply to the Hajj pilgrimage.

“To clarify, the only restriction concerns tourist visa holders during the Hajj period,” Tuggar said.

READ ALSO: Alleged fraud: BPP director testifies against ex-aviation minister

Holders of tourist visas cannot perform Hajj, enter or remain in Makkah between April 29 and June 11 (01 Thul Quda to 14 Thul Hijjah 1446 AH).

“The Hajj visa remains the only valid entry permit for pilgrims during that time,” the minister stressed.

Tuggar advised the public to ignore the misleading memo and confirm travel details through official sources before making plans.
