The message over the death of the Iya Adinni, is contained in a statement by the president of MUSWEN, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and the Executive Secretary, Prof. Wole Abbas.

The statement reads in part: “Mama’s passing marks the end of a glorious era. As a centenarian, last surviving child of last surviving child of 48th Alayeluwa Ademiluyi Ajagun and Iya Adinni of Ifeland, she was a beacon of faith, resilience, and service to the Ummah.

“Her title as the Iya Adinni of Ifeland was not merely honorary; it was a testament to her lifelong commitment to the propagation of Islam and the development of the Muslim community in the ancient city of Ile-Ife and across the South West region.

“Until her passing, she served as the Matron of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Ife Central Mosque, where she was a pillar of wisdom, guidance, and service.

“MUSWEN recognizes her immense contributions to Islamic education and her role in fostering religious harmony within her community. Her life served as a bridge between tradition and faith, demonstrating how royalty and religious devotion can coexist to uplift society.”

MUSWEN added that “Princess Awofisayo was a pillar of strength whose wisdom guided many. Her death is a loss to the entire Nigerian Muslim Ummah, but we take solace in the fact that she lived a life entirely dedicated to the service of Allah and humanity.

“The leadership of MUSWEN extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, the Ooni of Ife, the Muslim community of Ifeland, and the government and people of Osun State.

“We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants her Al-Jannah Firdaus and gives her family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

The umbrella body for all Islamic organisations and Muslim interests in the South West in a message on Sunday, signed by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, President and Professor Wole Abbas, Executive Secretary, also wished the president long life and sound health.

According to the group, “MUSWEN joins millions of Nigerians in honouring the President’s life of dedicated service, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the progress of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“MUSWEN acknowledges President Tinubu’s enduring role as a pro-democracy icon and a seasoned administrator whose political journey has been marked by significant sacrifices for the nation’s democratic stability.”

It added that “As the President marks this milestone, MUSWEN offers special prayers for his continued well-being. We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants President Tinubu increased wisdom, strength, and sound health as he steers the ship of the nation. We supplicate for the success of his administration’s policies, asking that they bring lasting peace, stability, and shared prosperity to every Nigerian home.”

The Muslim group stressed that “MUSWEN remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote social justice and equity among Nigerians of all faiths and urges the president to let this be his watchword at all times.”

In a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, President and Professor Wole Abbas, Executive Secretary, to commemorate the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, MUSWEN noted that the conclusion of fasting should not mark the end of the spiritual and moral transformation achieved during the sacred month.

It emphasized that the virtues of discipline, self-denial, generosity and intensified worship practised during Ramadan were intended to be a lifelong guide for every believer.

Reflecting on the current state of the nation, MUSWEN urged Muslims to continue offering special prayers for peace, security, and economic prosperity in Nigeria.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, let us remember that the God we served during Ramadan is ever alive to reward our deeds throughout the year,” the Muslim group said.

MUSWEN concluded by praying that Almighty Allah accepts the fasting and prayers of the Ummah and grants the nation lasting stability.

She stated this at the interfaith Breaking of Fast (Iftar/ Lent) she held for women from across all sectors.

The First Lady explained that the message was a strong one about harmonious living and unity.

“Jesus said in the bible that He did not come to abolish the law but the laws Moses brought down from the mountain can be summarized in 2, love God and love one another.”

Senator Oluremi Tinubu drew from her nearly four-decade interfaith marriage to President Bola Tinubu to preach religious harmony.

She highlighted personal peaceful coexistence as a counter to insecurity and division, urging service with “excellence, compassion, and integrity.”

“Today, like I said, is indeed a great day. It is a day that God only made for us to gather together, and for women, first, from different backgrounds. Since the Ramadan fast was announced, and the Lenten season began together, it was like God was speaking to us as a nation.

“Recently, we know a lot of things have been going on and people are trying to target towards our religious beliefs… And we Nigerians, we know that most of the time that is not the case. Some of us are married to men of different faith, and we lived together among us for many years. Me, almost 40 years.

“And I can tell you, I cannot remember when both of us raised our voices at each other. Maybe not more than twice in the 40 years, I can tell you that. So we’ve been quite mature and respectful about that. And I believe that’s the best way to live together”.

Speaking on the theme of the lecture of the Interfaith Breaking of Fast, the First Lady challenged women in public roles.

“Most women in this room, either you have your own office, or your husband is in the public office… you as the wife has the role to play.”

She urged Nigerians to drop “entitlement”mentality.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu also stressed on the need to mentor youths.

“We all have a lot of work to do, especially for the young people. You have to mentor them… The old school is still modern… So we have the real intelligence to pass on to the next generation.”

Director at National Open University of Nigeria, Prof. Ganiyat Adejoke Adesina-Uthman, tackled a “crisis of trust” in public office. Speaking on the topic: “Serving with Excellence, Compassion and Integrity in Public Life On excellence,” she stressed that integrity was non-negotiable.

“If you are lacking in integrity, then you are clearly a fraud… Your name and your character must be the same… Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.”

Bishop Sally William Chinebu of Dominion Church International echoed the theme biblically.

“If we look at the life of our ultimate example, Jesus Christ… Think of these three factors, excellence, compassion and entireness… When women get up… they create unprecedented force.

“Excellence is not decided as a profession… With the excellence of Christ. Excellence without compassion is cold… He (Jesus) saw them, He felt for them… Compassion is not just a feeling.” “We are serving the Lord… May we all, by grace of God, be willing to serve our generation.”

The event was attended by former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan; wife of the Vice-President, Hajia Nana Shettima; wife of former Vice President Hajia Namadi Sambo; wife of Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Akpabio; Mrs Fatima Tajudeen Abass; female National Assembly members, female judges, female ministers among very many others.

This message is contained in a press statement issued on Monday by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, President and Professor Wole Abbas, Executive Secretary, MUSWEN.

The Muslim group said, “This elevation, approved by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is a testament to Disu’s decades of dedicated service, professionalism, and proven track record in various strategic roles within the Force, including his leadership in critical operations and commands.”

“We see in his appointment a fresh opportunity to strengthen internal security architecture and restore greater public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force at this pivotal time,” MUSWEN affirmed.

It added that “As the umbrella organisation for Muslims in the South West geopolitical zone, MUSWEN recognises the enormous challenges confronting our nation, particularly the persistent wave of insecurity manifesting in banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes, cultism, and other violent crimes that continue to threaten lives, property, and peaceful coexistence—especially in our region and across the country.”

The group said, “We therefore task the Acting IGP to prioritise the following key areas during his tenure: Intensifying community policing initiatives, fostering closer collaboration between security agencies and local communities, including faith-based organisations, traditional institutions, and youth groups, to build trust and enhance intelligence gathering at the grassroots level.

“Addressing rising insecurity in the South West, with particular attention to kidnapping along major highways, farmer-herder conflicts, urban violence, and emerging threats that undermine economic activities and social harmony in our states.

“Strengthening discipline, welfare, and capacity building within the Force to boost morale, reduce corruption, and equip officers with modern tools, training, and technology for effective, intelligence-led policing.

“Ensuring impartiality, professionalism, and respect for human rights in all operations, while upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all citizens irrespective of faith, ethnicity, or background.”

MUSWEN pledged its full support and cooperation to the Acting IGP and the Nigeria Police Force in the collective effort to secure lives and property.

It called on “all Muslims in the South West—and indeed all Nigerians—to rally behind the security agencies through credible information sharing, prayers, and active citizenship.”

It prayed that Allah (SWT) should grant Acting IGP Disu wisdom, good health, courage, and success in discharging his duties.

“May his leadership mark a turning point in the fight against insecurity and usher in an era of lasting peace, stability, and progress for our dear nation,” MUSWEN further supplicated.

The umbrella body representing Muslims across the six states of the South West geopolitical zone—Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo— in a press statement said “The sighting of the new moon has ushered in this sacred period of spiritual renewal, self-discipline, compassion, and intensified devotion to Allah (SWT). Ramadan offers every believer a profound opportunity to draw closer to our Creator through fasting, increased prayers, recitation of the Qur’an, charity (Zakat al-Fitr and Sadaqah), and acts of kindness toward fellow human beings.”

In the statement jointly signed by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, President and Professor Wole Abbas, Executive Secretary, the group said “In this holy month, MUSWEN calls on all Muslims in the South West and across the nation to remain steadfast in faith, uphold the highest standards of Taqwa (God-consciousness), and embody the true spirit of Ramadan. Let us fast not only from food and drink but also from vain talk, backbiting, anger, and all forms of negativity that distance us from Allah’s mercy.”

The group added that “Amid the challenges facing our nation and the global Ummah, MUSWEN emphasizes the critical importance of unity, brotherhood, and solidarity. Division weakens us; unity strengthens us. We must rise above ethnic, regional, or personal differences and stand together as one Ummah under the guidance of our revered leaders.”

MUSWEN urged all Muslims to observe the fast with sincerity and joy, seeking Allah’s forgiveness and blessings; intensify acts of worship, especially Taraweeh prayers and Tahajjud; show generosity to the less privileged, orphans, widows, and the needy in our communities and promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect in our interactions with all Nigerians, regardless of faith.

It added that they should avoid rumours, discord, and anything that could sow confusion or disunity within the Ummah.

The Muslim organisation prayed that may Allah (SWT) accept “our fasts and prayers, forgive our shortcomings, grant us strength and good health throughout the month, and make Ramadan a source of barakah (blessings) for our families, communities, and nation. Ramadan Mubarak! Ramadan Kareem!”

The motion which was moved by the Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, Rep. Francis Waive (APC-Delta), was pursuant to Order 9, Rule 1 (6) of the Standing Orders of the house.

The problem started when the Speaker put the motion to a voice vote and ruled in favour of the ayes.

Some members who were dissatisfied, revolted in loud voices, and to prevent the rowdy session from further degenerating, Tajudeen directed that the Majority Leader, Rep. Julius Ihonvbere (APC-Edo) moved a motion for the house to proceed into a closed-door session.

Earlier before the rowdy session, Rep. Francis Waive (APC-Delta) recalled that on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was passed by the house.

Waive said that the house recognised the need to ensure electoral timelines and statutory provisions to promote maximum participation, fairness, inclusivity, administrative efficiency, and public confidence in the electoral system.

He said that the house was desirous of correcting identified inconsistencies and unintended consequences through appropriate legislative action in order to safeguard the integrity of the electoral framework.

The lawmaker said that the assembly did set up a technical committee to harmonise the positions of the house and the Senate as well as address the identified anomalies in the bill.

He said that the committee consisted of the leadership of both Chambers of the National Assembly, members of the Conference Committee, the Clerks of both chambers and legal drafting experts from the Directorate of Legal Services of the National Assembly.

As at the time of filing this report at about 12:47 pm, the house was still behind closed doors.

MUSWEN stated this in a statement signed by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, President and Professor Wole Abbas, Executive Secretary.

The statement came against the backdrop of announcements by some individuals and groups regarding the commencement date of the 2026 Ramadan fast.

The announcement was made in disregard for the established and recognised process of moon sighting

under the leadership of the president of the NSCIA, to signal the commencement of the Ramadan fast.

Calling on Muslims in the South West, in particular and Nigeria, in general,  to shun disunity, MUSWEN urged them to “be wary of the antics of people who do not wish Islam and Muslims well.”

“Their agenda and design for Muslims in Nigeria, and indeed the world over, is ‘divide and conquer’. We must not fall into this trap,” said MUSWEN.

MUSWEN added that the watchword for Muslims in this circumstance must be the Quranic verse which says: “And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah, and be not divided among yourselves; and remember Allah’s Favour on you, for you were enemies one to another but He joined your hearts together, so that, by His Grace, you became brethren…Surah Al ‘Imran (3:103).”

MUSWEN, in a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and Professor Wole Abbas, President and Executive Secretary respectively, described the deceased as “a devout Muslim, accomplished scholar and a distinguished public servant.”

Professor Raji died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 19, 2025 at his residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

A Professor of Agricultural And Environmental Engineering, University of Ibadan, Professor Raji was a Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti, Ogun and Osun states.

MUSWEN said, “By the death of Professor Raji, the Muslim Ummah has lost a rare gem who was always ready to deploy his intelect, time, moral and material resources in the service of Allah and humanity. We pray Almighty Allah to accept his return, grant him Aljanah Firdaws and give his family and associates the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Meanwhile, the family in a statement on Friday night announced burial plans for the deceased.

According to his family, Janazah prayers hold on Saturday December 20,  at Ogbomoso Central Mosque, Oja’agbo at 11 a.m. and will later be buried at a Muslim cemetery in Ogbomoso.

The president gave the charge on Thursday while decorating the new service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The new service chiefs are Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen Waheedi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, AVM Kennedy Aneke and Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas.

His words: “I charge you, as the heads of our nation’s armed forces, to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal. Nigerians expect results, not excuses.”

He urged them to be innovative, pre-emptive and courageous, giving the assurance that he would provide all the support needed to carry out their duties.

He emphasized the importance of their job, saying that without security every other thing was meaningless.

The statement by the president reads in full:

1. I congratulate you on your appointment and subsequent confirmation by the Senate. As your Commander-in-Chief, I am entrusting you with a tremendous responsibility—one that you must approach with the highest standards of commitment and dedication.
2. Today’s ceremony is beyond the symbolism of decoration. It marks the beginning of our renewed effort to ensure the peace and security of all Nigerians. Each of you has been carefully selected for this critical task.

Security is an essential element without which everything else is rendered meaningless. There cannot be sufficient development if this fundamental aspect of human need is unmet. Our people and our nation must remain secure to enjoy the benefits of governance.

3. The government’s foremost duty is to protect the citizens. Over the years, our military has remained steadfast in defending our nation’s territorial integrity, with many soldiers paying the ultimate price for their service. In dark times, when terrorists and armed marauders held significant portions of our land, our gallant armed forces rose to the challenge and reclaimed those occupied territories.
4. We have restored peace to many areas previously under siege, rescued countless kidnapped citizens, and significantly diminished the capacity of the terror groups.
5. I thank our armed forces for their patriotism, diligence, and dedication to their duty. As your Commander-in-Chief, I sincerely appreciate your sacrifices, as I have repeatedly acknowledged.
6. However, challenges remain. Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating. Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South. We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head.
7. I charge you, as the heads of our nation’s armed forces, to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal. Nigerians expect results, not excuses.
8. I charge you also to be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace. Let us deploy technology where necessary. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer.
9. I wish you success as you take up the challenge. I promise to provide all the support you need to get the job done.
10. Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May God continue to keep our armed forces safe.
