The Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed that the suspension order placed on Dosunmu Market and its environs, following the recent fire incident, remains in effect.

This is contrary to the speculation that the market has been re-opened.

He said the suspension order remained.

The position of the governor is contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, CBD, Mr. Seyi Akitoye.

Akitoye said the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, CBD, Mrs. Bola Olumegbon Lawal, clarified that the state government was actively assessing the affected area to ascertain the extent of damage.

This assessment, according to him, included determining the number of businesses and individuals impacted by the fire, as well as identifying buildings affected by the incident.

He said Mrs. Lawal urged market traders to exercise patience during the process.

According to Akitoye, she emphasised that the state government was committed to ensuring a thorough evaluation before making any decisions regarding the reopening of the market.

“The public will be duly notified once a decision is reached,” she said.

“The Lagos State government remains dedicated to the safety and well-being of its citizens and businesses. The ongoing assessment of Dosunmu Market and its environs underscores this commitment. Stakeholders are encouraged to cooperate with government agencies during this critical phase,” Lawal was quoted as saying.
