Churches and mosques across the country shut down as a result of the need to prevent the spread of coronavirus have been told to draw up the guidelines for their reopening.
The directive to the churches and mosques is also applicable to other organisations affected by the restriction order.
The Federal Government gave the instruction on Thursday during the daily press briefing daily of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.
Speaking at the briefing, the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said the decision was taken in order to make the different organisations affected own the guideline.
He said the government could however advise.
His words: “This is what we’ve been advising every society, organisation, community, be it faith-based, cultural based, professionally based, to come up with guidelines for themselves.
“We are happy to advice and engage, but this needs to be led and owned by the leaders of those organisations.”
