The 1996 set of St. Gregory’s College, Obalende, Lagos, on Saturday donated a power supplying facility for the school’s science block.
The presentation of the facility, solar panel, was done by the project sub-committee of the 1996 alumni Saturday evening before many other members of the set who came from various parts of the country and even abroad.
Head of the project committee, Soji Williams, said it was a deliberate move to guarantee supply of a non-stop power around that part of the school for both the students and the senior staff there and to create a more relaxed atmosphere for operations, study/ teaching for staff members and students.
“It’s a dream come true, because we are creating an atmosphere for the young generations to relax, study, take lectures and understand the right and necessary amenities needed to make education interesting and worth going for,“ William said.
Bishop Martin Igbadumhe, reacting on behave of the school showered praises on the 1996 set of the institution and urged other sets to emulate them.
“It is a laudable project and we appreciate this wonderful initiative which is a big boost to the school. If every set takes steps like this, St. Gregory’s College will be a much better place,” Igbadumhe noted.
There were other activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the set, including a Jumat prayer on Friday, novelty match on Saturday which ended 2-2 between the ’95 and ’96 set, health talk, dinner night and thanksgiving on Sunday.
The chairman of the Planning Committee, Peter Essien, told newsmen that he was excited about the turn out of his classmates at the event.
“We never anticipated the turn out especially because many people came from abroad just to be part of the celebration. It was a glorious reunion and it all went well,” Essien said.
