Senate Deputy Majority Whip, Francis Alimikhena, has been appointed as the Acting Chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Minimum Wage.

The appointment followed the absence of the chairman of the committee, Olusola Adeyeye, who is away on health ground.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, announced the appointment at the plenary of the Senate on Tuesday.

It would be recalled that the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, appointed Adeyeye as the chairman of the eight-man committee set up to work on the minimum wage bill.

Also in the committee are Abu Ibrahim (APC-Katsina State); Shehu Sani(PRP-Kaduna State), Sam Egwu (PDP-Ebonyi), Suleiman Adokwe (PDP-Nasarawa State); Francis Alimikhena (APC-Edo); Solomon Adeola (APC-Lagos State) and Binta Garba (APC-Adamawa).

While announcing the appointment of the acting chairman of the ad-hoc committee, Saraki urged the committee to expedite action on the document.

That, he said, became necessary to enable the Senate catch up with the House of Representatives which had already approved the bill.

It approved N30,000 as minimum wage for workers in the country.
