As Nigeria commemorates the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, a House of Representatives member for Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza Federal Constituency in Kebbi state, Ibrahim Mohammed, has asserted that the Nigerian Armed Forces deserves support and encouragement in bringing about peace across Nigeria.
Mohammed, who acknowledged the efforts of the country’s past heroes and the roles of the armed forces in safeguarding the lives and property of the Nigerian people said: “I salute the memory of our men and women of the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and contributions to the safety and well-being of this nation.”
On the widespread state of insecurity in the country, the legislator said: “Our security forces need to be awake to their responsibilities in light of protecting the lives of every Nigerian. As a government, we must also make the right investments, especially in improving our security communication infrastructure in order to gather information to squash threat and swiftly track cases.”
Mohammed called for active community policing in Nigeria, arguing that it would provide for more effective and direct safety as well as support the efforts of the armed forces.
“I sincerely think all Nigerians should owe it a duty to do all they can in their different capacities to help the armed forces to guarantee our collective safety and well-being,” he said.
