A driver, who allegedly conspired to rob and murder his former employer and his wife during the Naira scarcity period, was among suspects paraded on Thursday by the Police in Lagos State.

The spokesperson for the  police command in Lagos State, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the disclosure  while parading the suspects before newsmen.

He said that the about 40 persons were arrested in the past one month for various offences, including armed robbery, stealing, kidnapping, cultism and murder.

Hundeyin said that the driver conspired with a 26-year-old man to rob and murder the elderly couple in their home on March 19.

According to the spokesperson, the driver requested to be paid off and was obliged in February.

He alleged that during the period of cash crunch, the driver conspired with the 26-year-old to rob the couple.

“The robbery then led to gruesome murder of the couple and attack on their housemaid.

“The suspects went away with an unaccounted sum of money in dollars and Naira and two Samsung smart phones.

“They were later arrested,” he said.

He added that two men who were allegedly found with human parts in Ikorodu were among those paraded.

Hundeyin said that investigation revealed that both suspects were members of Aiye Confraternity.

According to him, one of the paraded persons  is a murder suspect who escaped from custody during the 2020 EndSARS protest.

Hundeyin said that from all the cases the police successfully cracked in the past one month,  they recovered eight arms, 16 live ammunition, six vehicles, one motorcycle and two axes.

He added that the police recovered nine power generators, seven television sets, two grinding machines, two knives, one home theatre, 27 phones, one bag of rice, hard drugs and a decomposing human hand.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos Command, Mr Idowu Owohunwa, has given certificates of commendation to 10 tactical operatives of the command for outstanding performance.

The operatives were presented with the certificates at the Police Officers’ Mess, GRA, Ikeja.

Owohunwa praised the men for their dedication and professionalism.

He said that officers and men in the command were always ready to risk their lives for others to be safe.
