The Police have begun a manhunt for gunmen who killed three of its officers in Kogi.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Miller Dantawaye, made this known on Wednesday in Lokoja, in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Williams Ovye-Aya.
The commissioner of police said the manhunt followed an attack on a patrol team at a pin-down point on Okoloke-Pategi Road in Egbe community.
He said that the assailants emerged from the bush and opened fire on the officers during their routine patrol on Wednesday afternoon.
“The command lost three of its officers during the attack before a reinforced team arrived at the scene, while the attackers fled.
“We call on members of the community to assist the police with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” he said.
The CP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to commence a full-scale probe into the incident.
Okoloke-Pategi Road, particularly the Egbe axis, is notorious for criminal activities, which explains the police routine patrol in the area.
