The Police Command in Rivers has arrested two suspected child traffickers and rescued two children in Chococho, Etche local government area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, told journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday that the victims were rescued unharmed.

According to Iringe-Koko, the suspects allegedly conspired to defraud two women of their babies.

She said that the two female suspects, Ugochukwu Onyebuchi and Ogechi Nmezi, reportedly lured one Gift Chimanu, a mother of a two-month-old baby girl into their scheme.

‘’They also lured Hope Onyebuchi, who has a one-year-old baby boy, claiming to have been officials of Government Approved Adoption Agency,’’ she said.

She said during interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement.

“The victims have been safely rescued and reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including the implicated OSPAC members,” Iringe-Koko said.

The spokesperson emphasised that the arrest underscored the command’s commitment to protect vulnerable individuals and eradicate child trafficking in the state.
