Troops of 3 Division of the Nigerian Army deployed to quell the crisis in Mangu local government area of Plateau State have swung into operation, neutralizing three bandits on Wednesday.

The troops neutralised the criminals when they fought through an ambush staged by the bandits, while responding to a distress call in Mangu general area.

“After successfully clearing the ambush, the troops recovered 3 x AK 47 Rifles,14 rounds of 7.62 mm Special rounds, 1 x Motorcycle and a Constabulary Police identity card,” the Director, Army Public Relatios, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said in a statement he made available.

He said troops were already on the trail of bandits who escaped with gunshot wounds during the fire fight.

Recall that on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu expressed sadness over the violence and killings in Plateau State.

The president condemned the most recent internecine killings in Mangu local government area of Plateau State and parts of Benue State.

Tinubu said he found very depressing the festering reprisal attacks, needless and avoidable bloodletting among communities in the two states.

To rebuild trust and restore harmony to the conflict areas, President Tinubu urged community leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers, socio-cultural organisations as well as the leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, and Christian Association of Nigeria to work together to help foster genuine and long-lasting peace.

While reaffirming his government’s strong determination to stamp out violent crimes and all forms of criminalities everywhere in Nigeria, the president has directed security agencies to fish out the masterminds of the dastardly acts to face the full wrath of law.

He, however, charged the governments of Plateau and Benue states and emergency response agencies to provide support and immediate relief to victims who have been displaced as a result of the conflicts.
