The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Ondo State, Mr. Sam Amaramiro Pepple, has declared that the scheme is desirous of having a clean society that will enhance better living for all Nigerians.
Pepple made the declaration at the MKO Abiola Democracy Park in Akure, where he flagged off the NYSC National Environmental Sanitation Day for the state.
The coordinator, who asserted that NYSC had impacted hugely on Nigerians across all divides and in all ramifications declared that the environmental sanitation exercise was another way to preach healthy living for citizens and residents of Nigeria.
He said that NYSC had remained at the forefront of ensuring that everyone conformed with the standard of living as enshrined in the statute of the World Health Organisation, WHO.
“Distinguished invited guests and my patriotic corps members, it is an open fact that NYSC, through her collaboration with notable agencies and institutions in health and environment sectors established Health Initiative and Rural Dwellers, HIRD, among other interventions to bring qualitative health care services for people in the society, thus promoting health for all in fulfilment of Sustainable Development Goals.”
He said that the scheme, through advocacy programmes and sensitisation of citizens and residents on the benefits of healthy living visited public places such as markets, motor parks, educational institutions and religious worship centres to promote good hygiene.
The NYSC Ondo State boss encouraged the citizens to keep their environment clean at all times as that would engender disease-free family life and keep doctors away.
The coordinator admonished well-meaning Nigerians to support the scheme with logistic provisions so that the corps members would be encouraged to do more for the society.
“As responsible citizens and parents, we need to encourage our children, the corps members who are always willing to rid our society of dirt through their various environmental initiatives.”

In his contribution, the Director, Enlightenment and Community Mobilisation, Ondo State Waste Management Authority, Mr. Oyetomi Akintunde, lauded the management of the laudable scheme for the worthwhile collaboration with the OSWMA which is aimed at making the state clean and disease free.
Akintunde disclosed that the citizens had apathy towards environmental sanitation but however added that the presence of corps members to demonstrate to the public the proper ways of waste disposal would, no doubt, have a positive impact on people and that might lead to behavioural changes.
The Director, Enlightenment, and Community Mobilisation informed the gathering that some people were allergic to dirty environments and appealed to NYSC management to make the programme routine assignment and not periodical event.
The highlight of the programme which was held simultaneously in all the local governments of Ondo State was the demonstration of the cleaning exercise by the state coordinator, management and staff while the corps members were assigned to designated places such as markets, motor parks, palace and other residential and industrial areas within Akure metropolis.
