The All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared that it will challenge the judgement of the governorship tribunal that declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 2018 governorship election.

The declaration was made on Friday by the Osun State Chapter of the APC shortly after the judgement of the tribunal.

According to the party’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, the verdict of the court could not stand crucial legal scrutiny.

His words: “We are going to appeal the judgment.

“The verdict cannot stand superior legal scrutiny. Therefore we will appeal against it.’’

The governorship election tribunal declared Adeleke winner of the 2018 Osun governorship election.

In its ruling in Abuja on Friday, the tribunal said the rerun which Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, won was illegal.

After the first round of election which was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, won by Adeleke, a rerun was conducted.

Eventually, Oyetola was declared the winner of the rerun and has since been sworn in.

But complaining that the election was fraught with irregularities, Adeleke and his party, PDP, went to the tribunal to challenge Oyetola’s victory.

Delivering the judgement, the three man panel declared that Oyetola was not duly elected.

According to it, the returning officer who cancelled the votes in the polling units affected lacked the power to do so.

It therefore directed INEC to withdraw Oyetola’s Certificate of Return and issue a fresh one to Ademola Adeleke.

Oyetola however still has the grace to file an appeal against the judgement.
