A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the immediate release of former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, from prison.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court had on May 8 nullified Kalu’s 12 years jail term over alleged case of N7.1 billion fraud while in office as governor.
The Supreme Court’s reason for the nullification of the judgement against Kalu was that Justice Mohammed Idris who delivered the verdict bad been elevated to the Court of Appeal as at the time he gave the verdict.
Orji Kalu was however not released from prison despite the nullification of the jail term.
It was therefore based on the Supreme Court verdict that Justice Muhammed Liman ordered the immediate release of Kalu.
He stated that the order for his release followed the verdict of the Supreme Court.
