The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Ondo State, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, has admonished corps members to strive and achieve greatness by embracing the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme of the scheme, as the world awaits their shine.
The state coordinator gave the admonition to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream II) corps members deployed to Ondo State and those dislodged from Lagos State during the flag-off ceremony of SAED activities for the orientation course.
Bakare spoke passionately about the employment opportunities available to corps members willing to complement the credentials with the skills they have passion for.
According to her, the figures from the Office of the Bureau of Statistics showed that unemployment had been on the increase, and that had necessitated the NYSC to come up with the interventionist plan aimed at taking graduate youths off the streets.
“Gentlemen corps members, you need to appreciate the management of the National Youth Service Corps for establishing the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development SAED programme about thirteen (13) years ago to stem the tide of unemployment in the land. Since inception, several millions of Nigerians who have passed through the scheme are now captains of industries and entrepreneurs of international repute” she said.
She charged the members of the service corps to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the scheme through the Trainers and Facilitators “who are thoroughbred professionals while impacting them the required skills that will put them on the economic world map.”

She appealed to them to take seriously the in-camp training as that would provide them with basics of learning the skills they have passion for, and equally perfect such, during the post-camp training which they would be exposed to in the course of the service year.
While welcoming the future “corpreneurs,” the Assistant Director/Head, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme, Pastor (Mrs.) Jennifer Funmilola Dawodu admonished corps members not to exhibit complacency in the course of the programme.
Pastor Dawodu appreciated the camp management, especially the state coordinator, for providing the avenue for the SAED programme to thrive in Ondo State as well as Trainers/Facilitators who have agreed to invest massively in the patriotic graduate youths.
She outlined what the corps members stood to benefit from the programme such as grants, loans and information gathering on funding opportunities as well as gaining technical assistance in job search.
The Trainers/Facilitators thereafter introduced their skills, which included Agro-Allied, ICT, Creative Industry, Culinary and Catering Services, and Construction.
