Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed receipt of a letter from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa requesting the screening of Dr. Olayide Adelami as nominee for the deputy governor.
The demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on December 27 led to Aiyedatiwa, the former deputy governor, becoming governor.
The position of deputy governor thus became vacant.
A statement made available to journalists on Wednesday in Akure by Mr Olatunji Oshati, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, said that the governor’s letter was received by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji.
The statement said that the governor’s request was in line with the provision of Section 191(3) B and C of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
It said that Adelami, who hails from Owo in Owo Local Government Area of the state, was expected to appear before the House on Thursday for screening.
The deputy governor nominee was a Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly until his retirement in April 2018.
He was also a governorship aspirant and contested in the All Progressives Congress, APC, primaries in 2020 against the late Rotimi Akeredolu.
