Ondo: APC declares Aiyedatiwa winner of guber primary

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been announced as the winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election held at the weekend.

The announcement was made on Monday by the chairman of the party’s primary election committee for Ondo State, Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State.

Ododo stated that Aiyedatiwa scored the highest vote, and satisfied the requirement of the law.

Aiyedatiwa was said to have polled 48,569 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Mr Mayowa Akinfolarin, who had 15,343 out of 95,178 valid votes counted.

Mr Olusola Oke, SAN, was said to have come third with 14,195 votes.

Ododo stated that Aiyedatiwa won in 16 out of the 18 local government areas of the state while Oke won in one

He said widespread violence and threat to life made it impossible for voting to be carried out Ifedore local government area.

Ododo who expressed appreciation for the conduct of the exercise said the party should be united ahead of coming political contests.

171,922 members of the party were revalidated to vote in 203 wards in the 18 local government areas of the state.

It would be recalled that some of the aspirants criticized the conduct of the primary election alleging violence and none arrival of materials and officials in some wards.

There was also a protest on Sunday by supporters of some of the aspirants at the APC secretariat in Akure, who called for the cancellation of the exercise.
