The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has ignored the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, over his order for the reversal of the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland conferred on businessman, Dotun Sanusi.

In a statement by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, on Monday, the Alaafin declared that the Ooni had no right to confer titles that border on Yorubaland on anyone.

According to Oba Owoade, rather, the right resided with him, being the “Titan of Yorubaland and on whom holds the exclusive right to confer any chieftaincy title which covers the entire Yorubaland on anyone.”

He therefore gave the Ooni 48 hours to revoke the title or face consequences.

But in a post on his Facebook wall, the Director, Media and Public Affairs, of the Ooni, Otunba Yera Moses Olafare, said his principal had told him not to issue any statement on the threat by the Alaafin.

The spokesman described the threat by the Alaafin as an empty one, arguing that the Ooni would not dignify the threat by issuing an official response.

The post reads in full:

“From Ooni’s Palace: My Principal has directed me against issuing a Press Release on the Empty Threat of the Alawada Babasala.

“I beg to disappoint you gentlemen of the press.

“We cannot dignify the undignifyable with an official response. We leave the matter to be handled in the public court of opinion has it is already being treated.

“Let’s rather focus on narratives that unite us rather than the ones capable of dividing us.

“No Press Release pls.

“48 Hours My Foot!!!”
