As the political atmosphere gradually warms up ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, Ogun State Chapter, has issued a passionate call for caution, reflection, and unity among Muslims across the state.

The warning is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of MURIC Ogun State, Ustaadh Tajudeen Jimoh Alao, and made public by the State Secretary, Ambassador Olaleye Rasheed Damilare.

The statement reads:

“As conversations about 2027 elections begin to dominate political discussions across Ogun State, many hitherto dormant platforms have suddenly become highly active.

“Political meetings are increasing. Campaign structures are quietly forming. Support groups are emerging everywhere.

“Yet, while politicians are strategizing, something more troubling is happening within the Muslim community.

“Brothers are beginning to argue. Friends are becoming suspicious of one another. Clerics and community leaders are drifting into opposing camps. All because of political loyalty and party affiliations.

“Meanwhile, those at the centre of the politics, the politicians themselves, continue to dine and wine together, negotiating power, sharing strategies, and strengthening their alliances.

“They know where they meet. They attend conferences together. They plan together. But many Muslims do not see this bigger picture.

“Instead, some are allowing themselves to become instruments in a game of divide and rule.

“One of the most painful realities is that many of the heated arguments currently taking place are not based on sincerity or the genuine interest of the Muslim community.

“Rather, they are being driven by personal gains, private interests, and hidden expectations.

“Some individuals have already begun to align themselves with political actors in exchange for financial inducements and promises that are yet unborn.

“MURIC described these promises as ‘pregnant promises’ promises whose delivery no one can predict.

“History has shown that many of such promises never give birth to anything meaningful for the Muslim community.

“Many political observers believe that for the sake of fairness, balance, and inclusion, the state should avoid another continuous stretch of leadership from the same religious bloc.

“Others argue that religion should not be a factor in the political leadership of the state.

“These differing opinions have unfortunately created deep disagreements among Muslim leaders and clerics, some of whom have already begun to take positions influenced by political patronage.

“MURIC expressed concerned that some respected voices in the Muslim community are already running towards bags of millions and seductive promises, forgetting the larger responsibility placed upon them by Allah and by the Muslim Ummah.

“We remind our clerics and Muslim leaders that their positions are sacred trusts. Islam has fought many battles throughout history and emerged victorious because its leaders stood firmly for truth and justice.

“Those who occupy religious positions of leadership today must remember that they will account before Allah for every word they speak and every position they take. Religious leadership is not meant to be used as a negotiation table for political benefits.

“It is a platform to defend Islam, protect Muslims, and speak for justice.

The Muslim community expects its leaders to feel their struggles and represent their interests, not to trade those interests for temporary political favors.

“We warn that the politics of our time is not worth destroying brotherhood over. While clerics and supporters quarrel over zones, wards, local governments, and political camps, politicians themselves continue to maintain relationships even across party lines.

“Today’s political opponents may become tomorrow’s allies. Yet Muslims are allowing these temporary political differences to create long-lasting grudges among themselves.

“Political power may appear powerful, but it is temporary. Many politicians behave as if they control destiny, believing they possess all the power and influence needed to shape the future. But the truth remains that Allah alone is the most perfect and the ultimate controller of all affairs.

“MURIC therefore calls on Muslims in Ogun State to approach the coming political season with maturity, wisdom and unity. Disagreements should not turn into hostility. Political choices should not destroy brotherhood. And no Muslim should allow himself to be used as a tool for division within the Ummah.

“As the curtain slowly rises on the 2027 political contest, MURIC says Muslims must also be conscious of the larger political trajectory of Ogun State.

“Without strategic thinking and unity, the state could witness another extended period of Christian political leadership lasting up to eight more years.

“For MURIC, this is not about hostility toward any religion, but about fairness, representation, and the rightful place of Muslims in the political structure of the state.

“We concluded with a strong spiritual reminder to Muslims. Speak up for Islam. Stand for justice. Defend your faith. But never allow worldly benefits to become the reason for your struggle.Because the true victory is not political power , it is standing on the side of truth before Allah.”
