The Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Obantoko, Abeokuta Old Students’ Association, NUDGOSA, has announced plans to host its national convention on Saturday, 24 January 2026, in Obantoko, Abeokuta.
The association described the event as a historic homecoming and a defining moment in the life of the association.
Speaking at a pre-convention press conference, the global president of NUDGOSA, Fasiu Bakenne, said the forthcoming convention would bring together generations of alumni, founding fathers, elders, teachers, royal fathers, religious leaders, partners, students, and friends of Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School to celebrate legacy, strengthen bonds, and renew collective commitment to the future of the institution.
According to him, the convention is themed “Empowering Tomorrow: Quality Education, Digital Skills, and Sustainable Development.”
He said the theme was a reflection of the association’s deliberate focus on positioning the school and its students to thrive in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world, while upholding strong moral values, discipline, and excellence.
Bakenne noted that Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, founded on January 19, 1962 by the Nawair-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria with 33 pioneering students, had grown into a respected institution that had produced leaders and professionals across diverse sectors in Nigeria and beyond.
He emphasized that while the school was originally established to empower the Muslim child through sound education and character development, it had over the decades evolved into an inclusive institution that continued to serve the wider community without discrimination.
The global president disclosed that the convention would also showcase the tangible contributions of NUDGOSA to the growth and development of the school.
These include infrastructural upgrades such as renovated gates and perimeter fencing, improved classrooms, solar-powered lighting, CCTV- supported security systems, healthcare support, learning materials, and scholarship schemes for indigent students.
The welfare of members, teaching, and non-teaching staff has also remained a key priority, reflecting the association’s commitment to the holistic wellbeing of everyone who sustains the school.
These projects have been delivered through the collective efforts of NUDGOSA sets and chapters across Nigeria and the diaspora.
One of the major highlights to be unveiled during the convention, Bakenne announced, was the 50-bed girls’ hostel constructed by the NUDGOSA UK Chapter, describing it as a landmark intervention that underscored the association’s commitment to girls’ education, student welfare, and a safe learning environment.
He commended the unity, dedication, and sense of responsibility demonstrated by NUDGOSA members, noting that the collaborative contributions of sets and chapters represented enduring legacies that would positively impact present and future generations of students.
Bakenne called on all alumni, both at home and abroad, to actively participate in the convention and to remain united in supporting their almamater through mentorship, professional expertise, advocacy, and sustained financial support.
He further stated that the convention would serve as a platform to inspire current students, promote academic excellence, and reinforce the core values of integrity, discipline, service, leadership, and collective welfare for which Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School is known.
The global president expressed deep appreciation to the school management, founding fathers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, sponsors, partners and particularly the host community of Obantoko, under the leadership of Kabiyesi, the Ntoko of Obantoko, for their support and hospitality ahead of the convention.
He expressed confidence that the event would mark a new chapter of growth, innovation, unity, and excellence for the school and its alumni body.
