The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has commended the Nigerian Navy team that took part at the just concluded Korean Ambassador Cup in Abuja.

The NTF, organisers of the Korean Ambassadors Cup which is the 14th in the series, said it was important to appreciate discipline in sports.

President of the Federation, Tayo Popoola, said the Navy team stood out competing fairly and they were well disciplined.

“It was not a surprise that they got the award. They were everywhere and they mixed with others and displayed good spirit of sportsmanship. I salute the team and they should keep it up,” Popoola said.

Our correspondent observed that while other para-military bodies were in attendance, the absence of the Nigerian Police was felt at the event in Abuja.

Meanwhile, the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team, Kukkiwon, thrilled fans with breathtaking performances, mouth-watering displays and electrifying entertainment at the event.

The atmosphere at the Mo Arena was filled with excitement as taekwondo enthusiasts and spectators witnessed a memorable celebration of the Korean martial art.

Although the championship featured several exciting contests, the world-renowned Kukkiwon team took the excitement to another level, transforming the arena into a theatre of  unforgettable moments.

The team captivated the audience with an impressive combination of high-flying kicks, powerful strikes, precision movements, coordinated routines and gravity-defying acrobatic displays that left spectators cheering and applauding.

Fans watched in amazement as the demonstrators executed seemingly impossible techniques with remarkable speed, strength, flexibility and discipline. Every performance brought fresh excitement, with enthusiastic cheers and applause echoing across the packed arena.

The team’s appearance also added colour and international flavour to the championship, providing young athletes with an inspiring glimpse of the heights they could attain through dedication, consistent training and commitment.

Kukkiwon’s performance underscored taekwondo’s ability to unite people through sport, culture and entertainment.

The South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Jeong Yo-an, urged Nigerian youths to embrace discipline, courage, perseverance and self-belief as essential qualities for sporting success and personal development.

Jeong gave the charge in Abuja on Sunday, encouraging young athletes to remain committed to their dreams regardless of the outcome of competitions.

He said Taekwondo offered more than physical training, noting that the sport instilled values that could help young people overcome challenges, build confidence and contribute positively to society.
