NSCDC arrests two suspects over alleged job racketeering in Oyo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested two suspects in Oyo State over alleged conspiracy and job racketeering.

The NSCDC Commandant in Oyo State, Mr Augustine Padonu, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Ibadan on Friday.

Padonu said that the suspects allegedly fraudulently obtained N868,500 from their victims under the pretext of assisting them secure jobs in the ongoing Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, CDCFIB, recruitment screening in Ibadan.

The commandant said that the suspects were arrested due to credible intelligence and vigilant screening procedures of the command which uncovered an attempt to manipulate the recruitment process using a valid applicant’s details.

“Preliminary investigations also revealed that N868,500 was paid by four unsuspecting job seekers to facilitate fraudulent employment promises.

“I wish to state that the affected applicants are currently being treated as victims while investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the criminal network,” Padonu said.

According to the commandant, the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.

He said that the Oyo State NSCDC command remained fully committed to ensuring that the recruitment exercise was transparent, credible and strictly merit-based.

“We strongly advise applicants and members of the public to avoid patronising fraudsters or anyone claiming ability to secure employment through unofficial channels.

“All recruitment information should be obtained only through the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) official website,” he said.

Padonu said that the command would continue to uphold the rule of law and ensure that all those involved in criminal activities were brought to justice.
