The National Judicial Council, NJC, has recommended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Tinubu for appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.
The recommendation was made at the 106th meeting of the council.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by its Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye, said the recommendation was imperative as the current CJN Justice Olukayode Ariwoola would formally bow out of office on August 22.

According to him, 27 candidates were also recommended for appoint as judges of states courts and a candidate for appointment as Khadi of the Sharia Court of the FCT, Abuja to their various state governors.
Oye noted that all the recommended candidates were expected to be sworn-in after the approval of the NJC’s recommendations to the president and their respective state governors.
When approved, Kekere-Ekun will be the second woman to be the Chief Justice of Nigeria. .
The first was Aloma Mukhtar who was sworn in on July 16, 2012 as the Chief Justice of Nigeria by the president at the time, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
