The Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, NNBofC, has appealed to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, to support the promotion of boxing more and put an end to the situation where attention is paid to the development of one sport to the detriment of others in the country.
The appeal was made on Monday by the president of the NBBofC, Dr. Rafiu Oladipo, while applauding the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 for reopening of sporting activities across the country with strict adherence to the measure put in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.
In a statement issued by its General Secretary, Mr. Remi Aboderin, NBBofC, said the reopening of sporting activities would enable boxers to get back to vigorous trainings and ready for serious title contests both in the country and outside.
The board praised the minister for embarking on talent hunt in boxing, saying that if well pursued, Nigeria’s amateur boxing which is the bedrock of professional boxing would return to its original glorious position.
The board also urged the minister to reach out to television stations across the country to include the promotion of boxing, among other sports in their contents.
The board said with additional emphasis on boxing, the sport would witness rapid growth with individuals and organisations seeing the need to invest in it.
The promotion of boxing among others, the board said, would help reduce the level of crime in the society.
