The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of a 20-year-old man who drowned in an open water in Kano.
The director of the service, Alhaji Sani Anas, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Monday.
According to Anas, the incident occurred at Madinawa area, behind Seven-Up, in Kumbotso local government area.
“We received a distress call from Murtala Muhammed, Deputy Criminal Operations (DCO) of Mariri Police Division that an unidentified man had fallen into an open water,” he said.
Anas said that upon receiving the report, a rescue team from the agency’s headquarters was immediately deployed to the scene.
He added that the victim was brought out dead from the water and his body was handed over to the DCO for further investigation.
The director urged members of the public to refrain from bathing in open water to avoid such incident.
