The governor of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, has approved Prince Abimbola Owoade’s nomination as the new Alaafin of Oyo Town.
The announcement was made on Friday in Ibadan by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Ademola Ojo.
In a statement issued, the commissioner said the approval followed due recommendation, thorough consultations and divination by the Oyomesi.
Oyomesi is a council of high-ranking chiefs and kingmakers in Oyo Kingdom.

According to him, the announcement had put to rest all the socio and legal bickering that has ensued since the demise of the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
The late Adeyemi died on April 22, 2022.
“All citizens of Oyo State should join the government in celebrating this momentous occasion and lend their support to the new Alaafin of Oyo,” the commissioner stated.
The commissioner, in the statement, prayed that Owoade’s reign would bring peace, prosperity and unity to the historic kingdom of Oyo.
Owoade is a Nigerian and Canadian entrepreneur, philanthropist, and president of 100279 Manitoba Limited, a real estate investment and financial services business in Manitoba, Canada.
He was born 48 years ago to the royal family of Owoade-Agunloye in Oyo Town.
