Also, the old students donated notebooks and various gift items to students.

The anniversary events began on Friday, November 14, with a courtesy visit to the school, where members of the set presented notebooks and other items to the students.

Celebration continued on Saturday, November 15, with a Reunion General Meeting, and later, a Get-Together/Dinner and Awards Night held at the Welcome Centre Hotel, along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, Mafoluku, Oshodi.

On Sunday, November 16, members are scheduled to attend a thanksgiving service at All Saints Anglican Church, Mabayoje Street, Oshodi, at 7:30am.

The three-day celebration will be rounded off with a beach party at Laguna Beach, Lekki, Lagos.

In his anniversary address, the President of the Class ’85 Set, Engr. Opeoluwa Oyewole, described the set as a vital sub-group of the institution, united by a shared dream of building something lasting; “a bond that transcends time.”

“As we gather here today, it’s hard to believe how much we’ve achieved; from those early days when our alumni association was just a spark of an idea to the thriving community we’ve built. And the best part? We did it together,” he said.

Oyewole noted that despite the world changing dramatically over the past four decades, the spirit of the alumni had remained constant.

“The bond we share is timeless and continues to grow stronger. Whether through reunions, networking events or the countless ways we support one another, we’ve built a foundation of camaraderie and collaboration that will carry us into the future,” he added.

He described the 40th anniversary as not just a celebration of the past, but a reminder of the many lives touched, friendships forged, and successes achieved; both personally and professionally.

Reflecting on the early days of the school, Oyewole paid tribute to the institution’s first principal, Mrs. Olubunmi Onabolu, whom he said instilled in them values of integrity, perseverance, and excellence; values that continue to shape their lives and careers.

He said, “Everyone of us, in our own way, has carried the touch of our alma mater into the world and we’ve made an impact on our communities and our families.

“As we reflect on the journey, I think back to the core values that our school instilled in us. Our Mama, the first principal of the school, Mrs Olubunmi Onabolu, instilled in us integrity, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence.

“Those values remain at the heart of everything we do. Whether you’re an engineer, an entrepreneur, an educator, a healthcare professional, an artist, or anything in between, the lessons we learned here continue to shape who we are and the work we do every day.”

Also speaking, the pioneer President of the Class ’85 Alumni Association (2015–2022), Pastor Abiodun Omobolaji Ogunneye, narrated how the association began.

According to him, the death of their colleague, the late Abiodun Oredeko, in 2015 brought several of them together during his burial on Friday, May 21, 2015, at his residence in Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

“It was after the burial that we gathered, exchanged contacts, and decided to start the association,” he said.

He noted that their meetings soon began to hold within the school premises, coinciding with the year the National Body of Mafograms Alumni held its first AGM; an event graced by Mrs. Onabolu and her husband.

Pastor Ogunneye also paid tribute to late members of the set who played significant roles in the association’s early development, including Segun Oresanya, Sunday Owolabi, and Sunday Akinyemi.
