The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has successfully evacuated 13 passengers involved in an accident at College Bus Stop, along Ikotun-Igando Road.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki stated that the harrowing crash involved a Volkswagen commercial bus (KSF 364 XC) and an Acura S.U.V. (MUS 99 GN).

“Preliminary investigations suggest the Acura Jeep driver, while speeding, briefly lost concentration, veered off course, mounted the median, and collided with an oncoming Volkswagen bus carrying passengers.

“The sheer force of the impact inflicted grievous injuries on several commuters, including multiple fractures and other severe trauma,” he said.

LASTMA officials swiftly carried out a rescue operation, successfully evacuating 13 injured passengers—eight males and five females.

To maintain order and support emergency efforts, security personnel from the Igando Police Division provided crucial reinforcement throughout the operation.

“With the aid of conscientious passersby, LASTMA officials ensured the prompt conveyance of all casualties to a private medical facility in Igando for urgent treatment,” he added.

Bakare-Oki stressed the importance of adhering to speed limits to prevent such tragic incidents.

He highlighted the Lagos State Government’s ongoing installation of speed enforcement cameras to monitor and deter reckless driving.

Expressing sympathy, Bakare-Oki conveyed his heartfelt wishes for the swift recovery of all injured passengers.

He reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to improving road safety and reducing traffic-related casualties across the state.
