Since the news of the death of renowned Mass Communications scholar, Professor Lai Oso, of Lagos State University, LASU, was broken Sunday morning, tears have ceased to dry.

Oso died in an auto crash along Ore-Sagamu Expressway on Saturday when he was returning from Abraka where he was said to have gone to examine some students.

Taking to different social media platforms, friends, colleagues, students and many other persons have since been expressing their grief over the sad event.

In different words, they have extolled the virtues of the late Mass Communication colossus, revealing how he has impacted their lives and the world directly and indirectly.

Below are some of the words said about the late Professor Lai Oso:

Gbemiga Ogunleye

One of the most published scholars.

He wore humility like a second skin.

A teacher, mentor and friend.

May God comfort us all and your family.

Dele Dele Olukoju •

You were an exceptional teacher, Prof. Lai Oso.

May your soul rest in peace!

Adebowale Abdulai

Prof Lai Oso, one of those who shaped what we are today. Tragic! May you rest in peace

Seun Ogunbayo

Rest in peace, Professor Lai Oso.

Abass Kobiowu

What a loss. He was my lecturer at the Ogun State Polytechnic between 1988/90. May his soul rest in peace.

Communication scholarship depleted! What a monumental loss. Interacting with him at ACSPN fora is memorable. To him, Communication scholarship is almost a spiritual engagement. His dedication to his students is out of the world. He was always involved in their progress. We were on an ACSPN intellectual journey to Ilaramokin a few years back. The real journey actually started from his Sagamu home. He was a man close to nature. I wanted to emulate his scholarly commitment. A tireless researcher. A mentor to many. A father figure in our ACSPN.

Really sad to read about Professor Lai Oso’s death. Just on June 1, I had the honour of presenting him his portrait on behalf of organisers of a media training he agreed to speak at with just an email invitation from a very young colleague based on my recommendation. May his soul rest in peace.

Seth Akintoye

What a colossal loss! Nigerian roads are death traps. And we have been having governments in this country, or is it demonstration of crazy people? May his soul find peace with God.

Yemi Ajayi

Good night Prof. Lai Oso. You made so much impact on me both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels that I’ll sorely miss you.

Lecturers don’t come the way you did anymore. May you find perfect rest in the bosom of your maker.

Semiu Okanlawon

Every social media platform you go today, it’s always about Prof Lai Oso. Such is what happens when a good man goes home.

Jimi Kayode

Prof. Lai Oso. Unbelievable. Really? God almighty! I chatted with him last week about a project. I chat with him often. I met him afresh on the pages of the Rhodes University’s Media Review magazine, while I studied at the University, in South Africa. Different editions. He was a man of clout, in media studies and mass communication, across the world.

He was the keynoter at Seye Joseph ‘s Media Masterclass on June Ist, this year. ‘Aunty Funke’, he would call me, fondly. Ah! Do today, this moment, what you can, for tomorrow is not guaranteed. Prof. Yinka Alawode Prof. Tunde Akanni Prof. Jide Jimoh Taiwo Thanny. Dr. Atofojomo Omolade of Lagos State University’s School of Communication my condolences. Erin nla wo!

Oh Lord! What a rude shock! What a loss!

Wasiu Ajani Adewale Olatubosun

Oh God

Who are we to question you?

Prof Lai Oso,

Too early to leave us,

You were there for me always.

Ur sudden death was a rude shock to me and all you tutored as a teacher of teachers, erudite scholar, veteran journalist, and those you serve as a pillar of support.

My oga, good night

May Almighty God forgive all your shortcomings and grant you eternal rest.

May God give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Amen

Good bye,

Good night sir

One of my strongest pillar of support is gone. Adieu Prof. Lai Oso. An exceptional man, modest to a fault. Went all the way for me. Mentored me. We co-edited a book together. You were part of my training programs. My ready source for recommendations. I am certain you are with God. Rest in peace sir. Orun’re.

The world is a little darker today from the loss of his light…

My heart hurts for the family, friends, colleagues and former students at Mass Communication Department of MAPOLY of Daddy (Prof.) Lai Oso.

May our happy memories of him soon outweigh the sadness we’re feeling at the moment.

Olaleye Olawale

Prof, waking to the news of your sad and unfortunate passing this morning does not seem like a pain that could ever go away.

For a father-figure, who played a huge role in my education at different times, your untimely exit and in such a painful way, is no less a deliberate harm inflicted on some of us by the devil.

There is no doubt that the university environment and the academia in general, have lost a rare talent in the person of Professor Lai Oso.

He was such an amazing teacher, who simplified lectures, however intricate they might be and literally put them directly in our brains.

With Prof, lectures were never boring, and you’d certainly not miss out on the thrust of each topic.

Adieu, Prof. Oso, clearly one of the best of his era ????????
