The Lagos State government has said traffic will be diverted on Independence Bridge, Lagos Island, as urgent repairs begin on Friday.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced this in a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday.

Osiyemi said asphalt works on the bridge would begin at night on Friday and continue throughout Saturday and Sunday.

He said the repairs would cover the inbound and outbound lanes, with traffic management measures introduced to minimise disruptions.

“Traffic management plans to help motorists navigate their movement during the repair works include partial closure of each section at a time, with a lane opened for motorists to access their destinations,” he said.

The commissioner urged motorists to plan their journeys and use alternative routes to reach their destinations during the repair period.

He added that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, would be deployed to manage traffic and minimise inconvenience.

“Motorists are implored to remain patient, obey traffic laws and cooperate fully with the interventions made available,” Osiyemi said.
