It is astonishing that anyone would try to halt the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road—a project bursting with promise for millions. Yet, someone did take it to court, only for the suit to be rightfully struck out after the facts spoke for themselves. Despite Minister Dave Umahi’s repeated clarifications that the contract award followed due process, critics cling to tired arguments, ignoring both the law and the immense value this road brings.

Frankly, I’m unbothered if outsiders or those far removed from the coastal communities in the nine states the road traverses fail to grasp the significance of this legacy project. What truly stings is when those who should know better attempt to sabotage progress for all. History will remember—and not kindly—those who stood in the way of Nigeria’s future.

For the record, here’s the truth: Minister Umahi has explained, time and again, that the Ministry had every legal right to select a sole competent contractor under extraordinary circumstances—when only proven expertise, speed, and capacity could guarantee success and prevent costly delays. This is not favoritism; it is smart, responsible governance.

But the real story is the game-changing impact of this road:

A Shield Against Ocean Surge: Every year, ocean surges and flooding threaten assets worth over ₦10 trillion along the coast. Lagos alone loses about $4 billion (₦6 trillion) annually. This road will be a lifeline, protecting homes, businesses, and infrastructure from devastation.

This is not just another road construction—it is a bold leap into a brighter, more secure, and prosperous Nigeria. L

Trade and Maritime Boom: By connecting major ports, the highway could boost trade revenues by up to $5 billion yearly, supercharging Nigeria’s economy.

Tourism Explosion: Easier access means a 30–40% jump in tourist arrivals, with up to $3 billion added to GDP through vibrant hospitality and eco-tourism.

Real Estate Goldmine: Property values along the corridor are set to soar, drawing in waves of investment and transforming local economies.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs: Nearly 10,000 direct jobs and countless indirect opportunities will be created, breathing new life into communities.

Agricultural Breakthrough: Farmers will finally reach urban markets with ease, slashing losses and boosting incomes.

Regional Renaissance: This project will unlock the hidden potential of entire regions, driving inclusive growth and reducing poverty.

A Blue Economy Catalyst: By supporting sustainable maritime activities, the road will anchor Nigeria’s blue economy for generations.

This is not just another road construction—it is a bold leap into a brighter, more secure, and prosperous Nigeria. Let us celebrate progress, not stand in its way. History is watching.
