The Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf following the petition against him by Yusuf Gawuna.
While Yusuf contested for the governorship seat on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Gawuna contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Yusuf as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.

According to INEC, Yusuf polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat Gawuna, who scored 890,705 votes.
But challenging Yusuf’s victory, Gawuna called for the nullification of the governor, saying among other things, the election was conducted in violation of the Electoral Act 2022.
Giving its verdict on Wednesday, the tribunal sacked Yusuf and declared Gawuna as the winner of the governorship election.
It therefore withdrew the Certificate of Return presented to Yusuf by INEC.
