President Bola Tinubu has decorated the nation’s new service chiefs with their new ranks.
The decoration was held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Thursday afternoon.
The new Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, was decorated with the new rank of General.
He was Lieutenant General.
While the new Chief of Army Staff, Wahidi Shaibu, was decorated with his new rank of Lieutenant General, the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, was decorated with the new rank of Vice Admiral.
The Chief of Air Staff, Kelvin Aneke, was decorated with the rank of Air Marshall, while the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Emmanuel Undiendeye, was decorated with the rank of Lieutenant General.
Speaking during the short ceremony, the president charged them to discharge their duties with patriotic zeal and bring peace to the nation.
On his part, the Chief of Defence Staff, Oluyede, gave the assurance that along with others, they would fight terrorism and other criminal activities in order to ensure peace and growth of the country.
Present at the ceremony were Vice President Kashim Shettima; President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy President of the Senate, Jubril Barau and the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, among others were also present.
Recall that the Senate on Wednesday screened and confirmed the appointment of the service chiefs following their nomination by Tinubu.
President Tinubu had in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate and read at plenary on October 27 sought the expeditious consideration and confirmation of appointment of the service chiefs by the Senate.
Tinubu said their nomination was part of a strategic realignment aimed at deepening professionalism, boosting morale, and enhancing inter-agency coordination in national security operations.
