JUST IN: OAU loses medical student during clinical examination

Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ife, Osun State, on Wednesday, lost one of its medical students, Oreoluwa Emmanuel Adewole, a Part IV student in the College of Health Sciences.

The management of the institution announced the sudden passing of the students on Thursday in a release by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju.

The institution stated that the unfortunate incident occurred during a clinical viva examination when the student reportedly complained of chest pain.

The university spokesperson said that the student was immediately attended to by his lecturers and fellow medical students present, “regretting that despite prompt medical attention and all efforts made to revive him, he sadly passed on.”

Olarewaju said the tragic loss had sent shockwaves through the university community.

He said the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff, and students of the university, had extended heartfelt condolences to the parents, siblings, and the entire family of the deceased.

He also commiserated with his friends, colleagues, and members of the College of Health Sciences over this painful and irreparable loss.

The university management was said to be engaging relevant authorities and the family to provide necessary support and to further understand the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

The management prayed for the soul of the departed to rest in perfect peace.
