Following the activities of criminals including armed robbery and kidnapping, the Ondo State government has banned the use of commercial motorcycles, otherwise referred to as ‘Okada’ on the Ofosu-Ajebamidele route along the Ore Expressway in the state.

The ban on the use of ‘okada’, the government said, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo, was with immediate effect and would remain until further notice.

The government said criminals had been hiding under the guise of engaging in motorcycle business to perpetrate evil.

It ordered that all activities of commercial motorcyclists should henceforth be restricted to internal confines of Ore town and other communities in the area.

Security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police has consequently been directed to apprehend anyone who flouts the restriction order.

The state government appealed to the general public to co-operate with security agencies in the enforcement of the ban in order to stem the growing rate of criminal activities along the area.
