The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Governor Abdullahi Ganduje winner of Kano State governorship election.
The announcement was made after the collation of the votes cast in the supplementary election that held on Saturday.
Abdullahi Ganduje, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in an obviously keenly contested election with so much tension, defeated Abba Kabir-Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party by 8,982 votes.
According to the result announced by the returning officer, Prof. Bello Shehu, Ganduje polled 1,033,695 votes while Kabir-Yusuf polled 1,024,713 votes.
Before the supplementary election, Kabir-Yusuf of the PDP had 1,014,474 votes, while Ganduje had 987,819 votes.
But in the supplementary election held in polling units in 28 local government areas, Ganduje got 45,876 votes while the PDP candidate got 10,239 votes.
Meanwhile, the chairman of PDP in Kano State, Alhaji Suleiman Rabiu-Bichi, declared that the re-run election was a mere charade.
Rejecting the election, especially that of Gama in Nassarawa local government area, he said it was shameful and should be cancelled.
The party refused to sign the results.
