President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his respect for the nation’s judiciary just as he said he was willing to abide by its decisions at all times.
The president made the pledge on Wednesday in Abuja while hosting representatives of the judiciary to breaking of fast at his residence.
According to his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the president recalled how he obeyed court ruling at different times over his bid to become the president.
He also stated that he believed that the judiciary should be independent.
Said he: “I respect the institution. I have come before you three times before I got here on the fourth run for the office. Your word is the last word on any given issue.”
He added that the training and experience of the judges had earned them respect.
The Acting Chief Justice of the Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko, who led others to the dinner, expressed appreciation over the invitation to the dinner.
He gave the assurance that they would continue to protect the judicial system of the country.
According to him, Buhari was worthy of being commended for not interfering in the affairs of the judiciary.
